Vehicle Detail

up for sale is my 1988 ferrari testarossa replica with no reserve price. if you are thinking about owning a real testarossa or a replica, don't miss out on this great car offered at a great price. testarossas were built from 1984 thru 1996. the word "testarossa" in italian means "red head" and it's appropriate that this car is painted a gorgeous red with contrasting black front spoiler and rocker panels. first, lets get the specs out of the way. the fiero is a common chassis/motor to use for these types of cars. it has a fuel injected v6 fiero engine and fiero five speed transmission. the engine has a special chip that gives it approximately 200 brake horsepower. as you can see by the pictures, it has a bright red exterior with a blueish gray fiero interior. if you were to purchase a genuine testarossa, you would expect to pay between $50,000 and $120,000 ballpark. plus, you would have the considerable expense of maintaining a real ferrari. real models require maintenance every so many thousand miles like any car, and that maintenance can run into several thousand dollars each visit. i urge you to check out maintenance costs first before considering purchasing a real ferrari. the maintenance costs was one factor in my deciding to purchase a replica over a genuine ferrari testarossa. when i take my replica in for servicing, the bill is in the hundreds, not thousands of dollars. with this car you can get some of the ferrari experience and ferrari look for twenty or so cents on the dollar over a genuine ferrari. i purchased this car because i recognized it as a real value. again, this is not a real ferrari but a fiberglass replica. the replica is extremely close to a real ferrari body. some replicas are shortened and look like a customized fiero. the car i am selling is the exact length of a genuine testarossa. the car has a full size (not shortened) '88 testarossa body on a lengthened 1988 pontiac fiero chassis. the frame has been stretched and the car is approximately 176 inches in length and 77 inches wide. i have fooled many people with this (although i probably would not fool a ferrari owner). are there any problems or issues? actually, the car has few problems or issues for its age and mileage (around 45,500 miles). i will be picky here and describe the few minor issues. there is a small burn in the passenger side seat; hardly noticeable. as far as i know, no owner ever smoked in the car so it might have been a passenger although i can't say for sure. there are various small nicks and or scratches in various places on the car; after all the car is 24 years old. most flaws cannot be seen from 10 feet away. there is no rust that i can find on it. oh yeah, you cannot lock the passenger door from the outside, but you can from the inside. i've never gotten around to having a locksmith look at it. the driver's side door locks fine from the outside and inside. all lights work, heater works very well although the air conditioner does not work. the previous owner said it had a small leak and it needed charging. i can't speak to that as i know nothing about ac. everything works on the car. it shifts fine, has a strong clutch, brakes (4 wheel disk) well (a few thousand miles ago i had new disk brakes put on) and drives down the road with no issues. this summer i had a new kenwood cd stereo installed with a usb port for a flash drive. all electronics, such as the lights, horn wipers etc work fine. all glass is fine. windows crank with no issues. there is a storage compartment behind the engine in the rear that is actually quite large where you can carry groceries or spare tool etc. there is also a little room by the spare tire in front for storage. the spare tire is like new and holds air fine. the car has ferrari badging on it and a ferrari steering wheel with the ferrari logo. i also have a couple of ferrari badges that can be placed on the rear of the front wheel wells like a real ferrari. the car has genuine 3 piece ferrari wheels as you can see in the pictures. the sport tires have lots of tread on them. that's about it for issues. you will not be disappointed and you can get in and drive it right away. i feel it is a very dependable car. the previous owner drove it all the way down from st paul minnesota to deliver it to me (a distance of around 500 miles). so i figured if he has enough confidence in it to drive it that far to deliver it, it must be pretty reliable. why am i selling it; good question? basically i fell in love with porche 911 carreras. i purchased a new convertible carrera and a 51 ford and i want to sell the ferrari to raise money for the carrera. basically, i have too many cars and not enough storage space. lately, i have been kind of impulsive with exotic cars and i tire of them rather quickly. i have tended lately to only keep a car a few months to a year and then fall in love with another model. as i mentioned above, i don't think you will be disappointed with this super cool car. if you are old enough, think of the old tv series "miami vice" with crockett and tubbs, miami glitter, "cigarette" speedboats, the party scene, discos etc. they drove these kinds of cars in the show. it exudes 1980's excess, but in a style that, in my humble opinion, is still beautiful today. posters of of testarossas used to grace the walls of teenage boys' bedrooms back in the '80s along with posters of farrah fawcett majors. both were real considered real popular and hot. caution: DO NOT CONSIDER THIS CAR IF you are an introvert and don't like attention. I can almost guarantee you will be asked when you stop at a gas station,, "what kind of car is this?", "what year is this?", "how fast does it go?", "i'll bet you don't drive this very often", "i hope you're careful where you park this." etc etc. plus, expect to get your picture taken almost every time you drive it. i constantly look in my rear view mirror and see people at stop lights taking pictures of the back of the car. this is probably one of the most photographed cars in town, with literally hundreds of people taking pictures. sometimes i will come out of a store and there are four or five people standing around looking at it and taking pictures. i will sometimes even take their camera and shoot them standing next to it. i've even had people pull up to me next to a traffic light and ask for my phone number so they might make an offer (that's without a "for sale" sign on it). all this is no exaggeration. YOU WILL GET TONS OF ATTENTION AND QUESTIONS FOR BETTER OR WORSE. a little on the car's history. i am the third owner. i was told by the second owner from st paul that the car was originally built in a small factory in north dakota (don't know the name of the company that built it). whoever was the first owner ended up selling it in an estate sale. the second owner told me (whether true or not) that the company that made this car also made the replicas for the "miami vice" tv series, as the producers didn't want to shell out the money for real testrossas and on tv nobody could tell the difference anyway. i have no idea if that is true, but that is what the second owner told me. as i mentioned above, i am the third owner. what is the difference between this replica and a real testarossa? well for one thing a real one has a v12 engine that gets you from 0 to 60 mph in less than 4 seconds. this car has a v6, and although it is plenty fast for me, it will not match a real one. a real testarossa will have a leather interior; this has a standard cloth fiero interior. a real one will cost you several thousand dollars to service regularly and this will cost a few hundred at the most. a real one uses testarossa parts: this one uses mostly pontiac fiero parts, a great savings in labor and parts. a real testrossa might require you to go to a ferrari dealer or foreign car mechanic; this car can be taken to the neighborhood garage for servicing. like i mentioned above, this car allows you some of the ferrari experience without the high cost of ownership and maintainance. i am also selling the car locally, and i reserve the right to cancel the sale if i have a local buyer. i've tried to give you as much information as i could and to be as honest as i could. although i am not a dealer, i am human and like whoever buys a car i sell, to not have any surprises and to be satisfied. i know this is a great car and worth every penny. you are welcome to have it inspected and take it for a test drive. i like to treat people like i like to be treated, so i will cooperate with you in any reasonable way. if you are out of this area, and care to have it shipped to you, i will cooperate with your carrier in any was possible. if you would like more pictures, or you would like me to take pictures of a specific area of the car, let me know and i will email them to you. the pictures in this ad were taken a couple months ago so they are fairly recent. thank you for looking at my ad
