Vehicle Detail
Excellent condition 1976 R60/6. I acquired the bike in 2007 from Chicago BMW Motorcycles dealership on Western Ave. (now Countryside BMW) into my motorcycle collection. The bike is in incredible condition as witnessed by the pictures. It has always been kept in my garage and maintained meticulously with only BMW branded motor and gear oils. I had no intention of acquiring the bike as I am more of a /5 person but did so as the condition was extraordinary. Apparently it was traded in by an older gentlemen from Evanston, IL for a new bike. The bike had been serviced by the BMW dealer under previous ownership. The bike runs flawlessly starts every time and idles to the point where you can’t tell its running and doesn’t emit any vibrations whatsoever. There is no leaking of any kind of oil from the engine/trans/shaft housing etc. The transmission tray is bone dry which is a sign that the oil pump seal and the main seal isn’t leaking. The bike also has excellent compression. As a condition of my purchase I had the bike inspected and tuned up at the dealership along with a compression test. The compression test was actually better than where the bike should have been based on the miles. I still have results of the compression test and will pass along to new owner. The paint isn’t concours condition but is in great shape with very little imperfections on the tank and fenders for a bike that is nearly 40 years old..There are a few little knicks on the frame from pannier and engine guard mounts , but otherwise in excellent shape. The frame of the bike still has its gloss and shine . The only section where the paint isn’t perfect is a small section on the right side of frame where some battery acid has spilled onto the passenger footrest mounting flange, see pictures. The bike will also look much better when detailed, especially with the alloy wheels polished. The engine/wheel/cylinder/wheel/brake housing alloys all have no oxidation and are in excellent color where they don’t necessarily even have any patina. None of my other airheads have alloys that are this bright in color. I assume the bike was probably stored in heated garage over the years with little to no moisture. The chrome is in absolutely excellent shape. . The bike is all original except for the aftermarket engine guards. Everything on the bike works except the odometer and neutral light. I bought it with 10,798 miles and the odometer stopped working on me at 10,821 miles soon followed by neutral light. Neutral light just needs new sensor, very easy fix. You can easily get the odometer fixed, I never bothered to. The odometer disclosure statement provided by the dealer should serve as proof of the mileage authenticity, in total I have probably put in less than 800 miles on this bike as I am not an active rider but more of a collector. The only riding I do is purposed to cycle the oils in my bikes to prevent engine internals corrosion and to prevent moisture building up on any of the bearings. Since I have acquired the bike I haven’t; done anything to it except change the engine oil every 6 months and changed the gear oils once. It has a 6 month old battery which has always been trickle charged. I didn’t do more to it because I just don’t ride it enough and any other maintenance wasn’t mandated and would have been wasteful if performed. All the rubber on the bike is in excellent shape as well. There isn’t on piece of rubber exhibits cracking or is faded, this includes fork boots, the bench seat, all the cables etc. The tires are also pretty much brand new Continentals. See pictures. Mechanically the bike is excellent. There are no noises coming from engine or valves and is incredibly smooth. The brakes are very good and stop much better than my /5’s which also have drum brakes. The transmission shifts smoothly. I am selling the bike as I want to get out of my motorcycle collecting hobby. I do not have much time or space left anymore and the novelty is starting to wear off. I have already listed a Ducati on eBay and will truncate my collection over time, mostly BMW airheads. Good luck to all bidding. This is a great opportunity to own an Airhead in this meticulous condition. I do not think you will come across another r60/6 in this condition. If you do not have any ratings as an eBay member please do not bid on the bike as I will cancel your bid. I have had bad experiences historically with members without ratings and will not waste my time with them again. A $1000 deposit is required within 24 hours of winning the auction. The bike comes with the original folding BMW key and a pair of German made Krauser pannier mounts. All pictures have been taken with a professional DLSLR camera with a 50mm lens. A 50 mm lens generally provides the most amount of detail as I wanted to truly represent the bike. Inspection of the bike is welcome from any prospective bidders. Good luck bidding, I will truly miss this bike.
