Vehicle Detail
This is a great Jeep with newer replacement turbo diesel engine (90K miles on engine) and very new replaced Garrett (original equipment) turbo (4K miles on turbo). Lots of appropriate maintenance and some upgrades were done over the past 6 months to bring this Jeep up to full original capability and more. That work included: 9/2012: fluid r&r front, rear diffs & transfer case; K&N air filter, front pinion shaft seal, transmission fluid flush ($800); 10/12: clean air hose (air intake), turbo (new Garrett turbo)($1500); 11/12: Transgo transmission kit lower end, 85-month Interstate battery($180); 12/12: front lower control arm bushings (Mopar), upper control arms w/bushings and upper ball joints (Moog), front brake rotors, Bilstein shocks front & rear, alignment($1250); 4/13: timing belt, water pump, lower radiator hose($1250). I have receipts for all of this. While I had access to discounts on some portions of this work, the dollar figures shown are the typical cost to have the work performed at a good shop. Some of the work done on this Jeep was repair (turbo), recommended/scheduled maintenance that should be done by 100K or even at intervals well before that (fluids, bushings, seals, brake rotors, etc), and some a combination of maintenance and improvement (shocks, clean air hose and Samco silicone turbo hoses). The Transgo transmission kit and the K&N filter were to address design deficiencies in the original transmission and intake. The timing belt I did after knowing I was selling because I thought it would be just unethical to sell with that hanging out there for an unsuspecting new owner. At this point, the only thing this vehicle may need for a very long time, per the shop who just did the timing belt, is a new alternator clutch pulley (about $95+1 hour labor) sometime in the next few months. The body and interior are in excellent shape with just a few dings here and there, see 3 closeup pics for the significant ones. There's no body rust, and just normal minor surface rust scattered underneath, mostly on exhaust, driveshaft, etc... only a year and a half in the snow belt. Overall, this Jeep is now as good as it was a couple years after rolling off the assembly line, in some ways better (shocks, turbo, transmission, Samco turbo hoses, etc). With proper maintenance, it should be running on the road (or off) decades from now giving great performance (acceleration, handling) and economy (I'm getting 30mpg highway, 25 mpg mixed driving... no performance chip/tune). To compare this Jeep Liberty CRD to any other out there for sale by other sellers, consider: 1. Do they have receipts showing the timing belt and water pump have been done? Both are required at or before 100K on engine, else you could encounter major engine damage if/when that belt goes. ...@ 100K, 110K, 130K? 2. Do they have receipts showing any of the other items I listed have been taken care of... transmission, differentials, transfer case fluid change; shocks, bushings, etc, etc. All of these things require attention as the vehicle passes through 100K, or far earlier in most cases. 3. Most important, how old is their turbo and how well has it been treated? The diesel engines in these great little Jeeps are more durable than most engines, and give FAR better mpg than gasoline Liberty's. But, like most high performance parts, the turbos require a little care in how they're used. If driven at high speed, say on an interstate at 75, 80, and then shut down immediately at a rest stop, or even after a quick exit and a stop at a fuel station, the turbo can/will be damaged over time. As prescribed in the owner's manual, some cool-down idling time is required in those circumstances to circulate cooler oil through the turbo bearings. My turbo has been treated correctly from the time it was installed, just 6 months back. Can the other sellers say the same for their 7 to 8 years old turbos? Circumstances and life adjustments now require I give up the Jeep. Regardless, buy this Jeep Liberty CRD and my investments will be your gain. Feel free to message with any questions. I'll get back as soon as I can.
