Up for auction is a 1997 Saleen Mustang Convertible that spent it's early life as a Budget Rent a Car in a program similar to Shelby Rent a Racer program in 1966 (and then again in 2006/2007). We all know what has happened to the prices of those vehicles. Now that Steve Saleen is back in control of Saleen, this could be a diamond in the rough! There were a total of 123 Budget cars between 1996 and 1998 making them quite rare and a great coversation piece. This one is Rio Red with Black leather interior sporting a 4.6 liter V8 and a T-45 5 speed transmission, a great combination. These cars have the very desirable 18" Speedline Magnesium wheels with Michelin Pilot XGT Z4 tires in 245-40ZR-18. It has a Saleen light bar and a Saleen style heat extractor hood. The stock exhaust was replaced with a BBK H-pipe and flowmaster mufflers (no cats). The sound is fantastic. It seems to run and drive well. It gets looks and attention everywhere, even in the driveway where I have had several people slow, look, make a u turn and then come back to ask me questions about it just in the past couple of weeks. The exterior and interior are really clean and show nicely. The aftermarket Pioneer AM/FM/CD sounds good through the Mach 460 system. As you can see in the pictures, the dash has been signed by the man himself. The trim on the bottom of the drivers door is seperating a little bit from the door (see picture) and probably needs to be removed and reattached if you are picky. The drivers side rear window is inoperable. The cruise control is not working and the nuetral safety switch also needs to be looked at. I purchased this car several months ago for my very soon to be 16 year old car crazy son. Based on his most recent report card, not only will he not be driving this car, he wont be driving any car for a very long time! If you are looking for a nice entry level Saleen convertible, this is your car! Keep in mind, this is a 15 year old car. There is no warranty either expressed or implied.
