Vehicle Detail
1960 Corvette unrestored "Survivor". 270HP, 4 speed , totally original, 48000 miles. In September of 1960, Warren Biggs Chevrolet in Los Angeles California delivered one of its last 1960 Corvettes, a special order Sateen Silver 270 horse, dual-quad 4-speed. This car had been the Dealers personal car for the previous 9 months and now in September it was sold to Donald Strother of Inglewood California who traded in his 1958 Corvette. Mr. Strother owned and maintained this 1960 Corvette for the rest of his life but very sparingly only accumulated 48000 miles in his 50 years of ownership. All of this is well documented with original paperwork from Warren Biggs Chevrolet and excellent period photographs of Donald with his new Corvette in 1960, already fitted with the Warren Biggs Chevrolet license plate frames still on the car today surrounding the original issue black California plates. Numerous oil change stickers in the door jambs assist in documenting the miles up thru the years and some old service records accompany the car. This hi-horse 4 speed Corvette seems to have led a very pampered life in the perfect environment of southern California. Well maintained by its long term owner, never abused, damaged or modified. This Corvette is a true example of what we now call a "survivor". Just purchased from the family of the 53 year owner, this California 1960 Corvette is an incredible find. Well maintained and cared for its entire life but never dismantled, modified or restored. This 270 Horsepower dual-quad 4 speed Hi-performance Corvette is in amazing condition. This is an all matching number car, correct factory installed date coded components from top to bottom. Starting with the original 'CU" 270 stamped block, all engine componentry, transmission and factory 370:1 posi rear. This car passes all inspections attesting to its originality. Mostly original Sateen Silver Paint except what appears to be a refinished RT front fender and nose panel but paint is very thin and shows numerous small chips and other paint defects as one would expect on a 50 year old plus acrylic lacquer. Exterior chrome and stainless trim is very nice and original to car. Near perfect glass but a new Al Knoch Convertible top has been fitted to replace the original that was beyond good service. Top is perfectly installed and all rubber weather stripping is fine. New correct reproduction 670-15 whitewall tires have been installed on the original dated wheels along with the pristine original wheel covers. The 5th wheel and correct spare tire are properly installed in the car under the original spare tire board including posi and jacking stickers. The interior is very nice with a new set of knoch seat covers fitted to replace the originals that had incorrect inserts installed long ago in California. The only other interior item needing attention was the dash pad that was beyond salvation and has now been properly replaced. The rest of the interior is original with mint gauges, all functioning and a good working Wonderbar radio, along with a beautiful original steering wheel. Underhood is a completely unmolested engine compartment. Appears to have never been tampered with and looks like the motor has never been apart or out of the car. The frame and chassis components of this car are incredible as only you would find on a car that spent its entire life in the southwest. Finishes, inspection marks and numbered pieces are all visible with zero rust or deterioration of any type, "note the totally legible frame number stencil to give and the chassis condition". We notice the car does have an original Chevrolet fast steering adapter likely installed long ago by the previous owner to his preference. One short drive in this car speaks volumes about original unrestored solid axle Corvette. Great performance from the 270 horse dual-quad 283 motor. Butter smooth shifting with the original tight shifter and a very solid creek-free ride all contribute to what this 48000 mile car is all about. As appreciation for unrestored cars escalates. This spectacular early Corvette will be a car to own. Please review our extensive photos or come see this very special car.
