Hi: I am the second owner of this vehicle. I bought it in the early 90s from an older woman in Pacific Heights in San Francisco. It sat in my garage for over a dozen years, until 2008. And, it was mysteriously stolen once. Like in a mystery: I found dozens of burned out matches all around the vehicle in the garage, as if someone was looking for a key in a secret pocket, under the vehicle. One that I put there, five years earlier, in a well hidden spot. Later, the police found the 504 abandoned on the streets of San Francisco, with cigarette butts in the ashtray, which was never used except for change. I drove it for three years until I could no longer get this one French man to work on it, when I needed work done. With his private shop, he was always in France. The engine, transmission and Roto-diesel are in perfect working order. But, the Roto leaks fuel and needs new gaskets. The alternator is a Robert Borch rebuilt, and is almost new. The heater works but the radio does not. It needs new interior water radiator hoses. It has three new Dominions whitewall tires, one is the spare. The tire jack is complete and easy to use. It has automatic front windows, with a mechanical crank is they go out. There are no major problems with this car. But, it can use some minor engine and body work. Like: Four new shocks or struts, radiator hoses, Roto-diesel seals and possibly a new muffle. The 504 was exported from France and assembled in Argentina, Kenya and Egypt. As a well built and simple sedan, it was used as a bush taxi in Kenya. It is missing one hub cab and has newer glow plugs. Instead of waiting 30 seconds for the light to come on, you count to 7 and then hit it. You need a new battery, new alternator and new glow plugs, and she will start in any weather.
