Vehicle Detail

Offered for your consideration is my beautiful 1946 Chevrolet pickup. Before I begin the description, let me tell you a little about how I came about acquiring this old sweetheart. I'm a collector of antique Indian motorcycles and in general like old vehicles. As an active member of the Antique Motorcycle Club of America I regularly participate in antique bike rides in California. For years I've been stopping by the home of the president of the Southern California Chapter of the AMCA, who lives in Costa Mesa California. Every time I went to his house I passed by a old home just around the corner from his that had this truck, teardrop trailers and a number of other unique and cool vehicles parked in his yard under huge trees. I'd usually stop by and say hi to him when he was out in the yard tinkering with this truck, which I had fallen madly in love with. For years I pestered him, "is it for sale?". "Nope" was his eternal one word answer. It seemed every time I was over there he was out toying with the truck, rebuilding something, updating something, etc. He offered up that he had purchased it years earlier from an old rancher off a farm in the California interior where it had been since new. Since he owned it, he rebuilt the motor, rebuilt the transmission, rebuilt the brakes, and on and on. It had been repainted at some time long in the past, and the paint now carries the old patina of original paint. He re-chromed the grille and bumpers. In short, he was always toying with it. He almost never drove it but it gave him great satisfaction working on it. A few years ago my friend called to tell me the old man passed away. His wife was getting rid of the house and all the vehicles and if I wanted it I'd better get there quickly. She remembered me as the guy who pestered her late husband and agreed to sell me the truck. Having flown there from Las Vegas I hadn't thought through the whole plan of how to get it the 350 miles back to my home. She said why the heck didn't I drive it? So I did, and it purred like a kitten all the way back to Las Vegas. I had a blast! People honking and giving me the thumbs up the whole way home. Even the highway patrolman who pulled me over on the freeway liked her, telling me he pulled me over because he just wanted to see it up close. Unfortunately, I just don't drive her enough. It is a shame to have her sitting in the driveway. My garage is packed with old motorcycles and there is no room to put her indoors where she should be. Reluctantly, my better half convinced me I should part ways with her. As noted above, she is a 1946 and nearly all original. The mileage shows just above 80,000 and while I don't know what the actual mileage is I am of the opinion this is the original mileage. The doors are tight, the seat springs are not sagged out at all, and everything on the old girl sits nice and tight. The old man installed a radio in the glove box which I have never turned on. Hearing the engine purring along is music enough for me. The electrical system is still 6 volt. Headlights, tail lights, brake lights, turn signals and dash lights all work, as do all the instruments. As noted above, everything mechanical on the truck has been rebuilt. The old man made two changes. One, he installed an oogha horn and second (this is the funny one) he installed a dual downdraft intake with two Carter single barrel carbs. Now it's a real hot rod! When I bought the truck from the widow she kindly gave me all the old parts to the truck so it can be converted back to it's original single carb and air filter if you desire. The body and framework is solid. There is some rust at the bottom of the doors and around a few of the trim areas but all in all the body work is rock solid. There are a few small dents here and there but from my viewpoint they add to the character of the old girl. She even has a cowboy hat holder mounted in the center top of the cab. The front window cranks open which provides your basic air conditioning. I had thought about doing a cosmetic restoration of the old girl but just couldn't bring myself to do it. She looks too cool exactly the way she is. I would hate to see her "resto mod" but at the end of the day the new owner will do with her as he or she pleases. Just remember, this is an amazingly cool truck in original condition which it will only be once. If you have any questions please feel to ask and I will answer to the best of my ability. As far as the terms of sale, I will expect a non refundable deposit on Paypal and the remainder in cash or wire transfer. She will not leave my house until the funds have cleared into my account. I will help with shipping but in the end it will be the responsibility of the new owner to arrange shipping. Don't miss this once in a lifetime opportunity to own one of the neatest, nicest, most original old trucks you'll ever find. Bid early, bid often, and good luck!
