Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is a 1972 Gran Sport Stage 1 - a REAL Stage 1. Starting in 1972, Buick changed its V.I.N. coding to identify the motor option. If the fifth digit in the V.I.N. is a "V", you have a Stage 1 car. That's what we have here. Very rare, only 728 total were built. Even better, this car has only 25,681 actual miles as evidence by the title. Originally a Code 40 Fire Red car, the car was professionally repainted in nice Starmist Blue in 1992. The paint has held up good since then. No evidence of red paint is clearly visible, nor are signs of messy overspray. On a scale of 1 to 10, is a presentable 6. There are approximately four visible paint chips, none larger than the example shown in the pictures. There is slight surface bubbling (approx. area 2 inches) under the vinyl top between the rear glass and the trunk lid. It has not gotten any worse over the last year and a half. The very clean and blemish-free white bucket seat/consol interior is all original with the exception of an after-market AM-FM cassette stereo. The black carpet is excellent. Options include factory a/c, power steering, power disc brakes, power windows, power drivers seat and rear defogger (not operational). The NOM but correct 1241735 casting number 455 has been built to Stage 1 specs., with the addition of an HEI distributor and an electric fuel pump. The motor runs strong, with good oil pressure and no smoke. Very rare and desireable stainless steel equal-lenght scavenger headers have been added along with a 3 inch. exhaust sytem. Ask the Buick performance guys- these headers and exhaust are the trick to making the 455 really breathe. The original cast iron exhaust manifolds are included. The TH400 shifts properly, and spins the correct 10-bolt rear. The car rides on like-new BF Goodrich radials, with the beautiful road wheels. All around, the chrome is good. There is minor pitting of the chrome on the right rear bumper over the tail light, but it is not obvious. With the exception of the gas gauge, the factory guages are not operational. An after-market oil pressure gauge is installed and does work. Again, this is a real GS Stage 1 - one of only 728 built in 1972 and only 1 of 271 with the factory through-bumper exhaust. This car would make an excellent project for the tinkerer. You can drive it while you invest a few bucks and time to bring it up to the next level. Or, you can leave it alone and enjoy the ride for years to come. Either way, you will stand out in the sea of Chevelles at the local shows and cruise nights. If you are looking for a clean, low milegage, big block GM A-Body with good bones and great restoration potential, and would prefer a little extra luxury and build quality with your muscle, then consider this vary rare, very real GS Stae 1. Wouldn't you really have a Buick? Call John (609) 977-6886 or Mike (609) 712-2423. Please serious inquiries only. No photo collectors or junior test pilots. We have a very realistic and quite low reserve on this car, and we intend to sell the car. However, we don't have time to deal with tire kickers, or critics comparing this car to a concours GS Stage 1. This car will likely sell for one-third the price... Bid with confidence. Buyer is responsible for shipping, but we may be able to assist.
