Vehicle Detail
LOWER RESERVE PRICE. This is an original 1971 CHEVELLE SS 454 LS5-4 365 HP, TH 400. The car is and has all original equipment that came with car except air breather and spare rim. I bought this car from the ORIGNIAL OWNER in Georgetown, Ohio. What I received from him with the car was: the original protecto plate, the owners manual, the memorandum cetificate of title (state of Ohio, which dates 06/09/1971), Ohio re-title issue date 05/31/2012, that I have a copy of now, 12 registrations ranging from 1972-1977, 1981, 1989, 1992-1995, receipts from having the engine rebuilt in 06/23/1986, from Richmond Performance Center, Inc. Richmond, Indiana. I looked for many months on Ebay and Craig's List for an original owner car and when I came across this car in Georgetown, Ohio. I knew that after talking to Larry for just a few minutes that he was a very honest and upfront guy, everything that he told me about the car I knew was the truth. After several phone calls with Larry and knowing there were other buyers, my buddy and I took off for Ohio. We left on a Thursday night at midnight and got there around 7:30 a.m. after changing many times in the drivers seat to drive straight thru. When we arrived, the nice old fellow was hooking up a battery charger to the Chevelle. After meeting him in person and swapping stories, we checked out the car and made sure everything was legit. Larry started the car up for us while he told us the story of why he bought it. He originally bought a 70 Chevelle SS396, after only a few months he and his wife were struck head on. Lucky for him, he wasnt hurt, but his wife still to this day has problems with her legs. As we all know how insurance company works, it took time, but he had bought another chevelle, but this time is was a 1971. After hearing the 454 fire up, I was hooked, although the carb needed rebuilding, the engine still sounded great. As he drove it out of the garage, I knew this is the one I was looking for. After loading her on the trailer, swapping more stories with Larry and taking pictures with him and the car we headed for home. After getting the car home, rebuilding the carb and changing the tires, I was able to take it for my first spin. I realized how much power Richmond Performance Center had added when they rebuilt the 454. Larry said he had spun a main bearing, so that is the reason for the rebuild. Richmond Performance had rebuilt the motor from top to bottom, they bored the cyllinders, honed and decked the block (the magical numbers on block identifying with protecto plate are gone). They milled the heads and did a valve job and put the next size cam in. Lucky for us on their receipt they had recorded the numbers on block identifying with the proceto plate before decking the block. Before driving the car around all summer I decided to change the front and rear bumpers, (have original bumpers, no dents, need to be rechromed), put in new carpet, professional seat covers installed, alot of cleaning, rebuilt carb, then replaced carb, took out points, added HEI distributor, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, valve cover gaskets and checking the timing, replaced front side markers, headlight chrome covers and rear bumper SS emblem. After driving for half of the summer I also had to replace the fuel pump and starter. Also have original radio, jack, tire iron, jack base, replaced spare rim. The trunk floor, frame, floor boards, doors, hood, deck lid are solid. What needs to be replaced bottom of quarter panels, top of wheel wells, bottom of fenders, 2 little holes on driver's side rocker panel (size of a dime). Easy, quick fix, structurally solid. Needs weather stripping. Interior real nice excellent condition, all original except for seats and rug. Needs head liner. I have new big block, front springs, bottom ball joints, front shocks and sway bar bushings. This is all the research that I have had time for: Vin#: 136371R140503 36 = Chevelle 37 = 2 door sport coupe 1 = 1971 R = Arlington, Texas Plant Training: Turbo 400# 379 71CF Motor block#: 3963512 = 365 HP 454 Rear end housing#: 3969278 NF 3969278 = 12 bolt NF = 1970-1972 Passenger axle tube#: RVC0251E RV = 3.31.1 gear positraction LS5/454 only C = Buffalo, NY assembly plant 025 = 25th day of the year (Jan 25th) 1 = 1st shift E = Eaton postitraction Paint 67/67 = Classic Copper RPO215 steering wheel SS emblem RPOD88 = hood and deck stripes F41= sport suspension Body tag R27494 (BDY) ST 71-13637 TR 706 Carb#: 7041200 A1 FA Coil#: AC Delco 293 8-R Distributor#: 1112052 OG16 Brake master cyllinder#: 5470409 Intake#: 3855287 Manifold#: L L16 70 LH4 843 R 310 RHG A13 71 Protectoplate# 136371R140503 = vin#s 71379CF = tranny#s T0125PD = engine#s on block in front of head PD or CPD = only used at Arlington, Texas for 454 LS5-4 365 HP TH400 B = build month 133 = special option C = Buffalo 3.31.1 positraction 454 LS5 CRV0251 = matches axle tube Car was driven all summer, drives straight and true, it is a great original driver with a little TLC and paint.
