Vehicle Detail
2000 Chevrolet C5 Corvette – HPDE Ready History - This car has been in the family since it was originally purchased new from the dealer. I'm downsizing and making other life changes. A copy of the Window Sicker and the Build sheet are in the pictures. The car was used for regular driving and also for the fun of running Track Days, or as they are referred to now as HPDE. In April 2000 the car was modified with a Mongoose Performance Package by Pro Auto Tech doing business at the time in Fort Myers, FL. There is a list further down of the items that were installed. The car was dyno'd at the completion of the work and showed Max Power 388.3 (factory was 345hp) and Max Torque 372.0. There have been no additional alterations to the car since then except for a couple cpu tweaks as I recall. The original dyno sheet is at the end as well as some recent engine test information. From 2000-2006 the car was run mostly at VIR, and Summit Point averaging about 3-4 events a year. I am the 2nd owner. I obtained the car in 2006 from a family member and used it for some daily driving and also some HPDE events mostly at Road Atlanta. Must folks shy away from a modified Corvette particularly if it has been used for HPDE. Just for clarity while the car was used for HPDE it does not resemble a race all that much. More of a controlled learning experience. Condition - Car has always been garaged. Exterior - the paint is good. Some touched up stone nicks here and there. No body or frame damage. Windshield has a very small nick. It has been there for years and is not traveling. All exterior and interior items in working order. Interior clean, original leather seats show little wear. All gauges functioning. The original radio (with cassette) was replaced with an Alpine around 2004-5 in order to play CDs. However while the Alpine can play store bought CD's is not smart enough to play home burned CD's like mp3’s. Undercarriage photos in the transmission, oil pan, and diff areas show no active leaks although there is the usual “grime” that accumulates in these areas. HPDE changes to the body - Air Vents were added in front of the rear wheels for brake ventilation. HPDE changes to the interior - Roll Bar. 5 point harness. HPDE changes to the Suspension - Adjustable shocks. HPDE changes to the Brakes – Front slotted performance rotors with autocross pads all around (they are not as dirty or abrasive as race pads). HPDE changes to the Engine - Mongoose package which included- Camshaft Power Flow Cylinder Heads B&B Headers LS6 Air Force Filter Assembly Max Flow Mass Air Sensor Custom Throttle Body Throttle Body Coolant Bypass Performance Capacitive Ignition System 178 Degree T-Stat 12 Way Adjustable Shocks Crank Pully & Belts Boral SS Cat-Back Exhaust (this will wake you up) Custom PCM Programming HPDE Additions for the Driver - Included with the vehicle are 2 Sparco EVO 2 racing seats and mounting frames. It's an easy swap to go from the factory seats to the racing seats. This will allow you to use the 5 point racing harness. However.....because of the space taken up by the EVO2 seats the original seat belts have to be deinstalled when using the racing seats. Not a big deal, couple bolts. One seat is like new, the other has been used. They hold up very well. HPDE Tires - included is a set of 4 Kinesis 5 Spoke, 3 piece HP rims (the current model K-59 can be viewed on the internet) with mounted Nitto 555 Extreme 315/35ZR17 tires. The tires have only a few miles on them. The rims were purchased about 2001. They are high end. The tires were purchased in June 2012 and have yet to see the track. These Nitto tires are street legal and have a softer compound for track use. Mount them at home, drive to the track and do your thing. For you eagle eyes out there, yes I was running the same size on all four wheels. The Kinesis rims have the proper offset and there are no wheel well clearance issues. It’s suggested that you turn off active handling so the computer doesn't get confused. Or you can run with the standard store bought tires that come with the car, Goodyear Eagle F1 (F) 245/45ZR17, (B) 275/40ZR17. The Eagle tires that come with the car are not run-flat. They do have good tread on them. The prudent driver could either change them out to run-flats or carry a small jack, lug nut wrench, can of flat fix, and some wood blocking and have roadside assistance on their insurance just in case. But I’ve never had a flat in 6 years of ownership. So, track day comes around, change your seats, change your wheels and do your HPDE. Keep in mind you'll need to remove your factory seat belts when switching seats since the EVO 2 Sparco frames will not fit unless you do. Not a biggie. (or you can change out the seat frames to something else). Or you can run it as is, street tires, standard seats, and still have a good time. The new owner will also get the complete C5 3 volume set of Chevolet Factory Manuals. Great evening reading for a long, long time. Also included is a nice full length car cover. You may have heard about some of the LS1 engines and "fluttering rings" and using oil. I can't vouch for the fluttering rings but this vette does use about a quart every 700 miles and perhaps more with aggressive driving. This has been the case for years. With that in mind and to be upfront with interested buyers I’ve had the following test completed. 1. A new 3 run dyno. A copy of the original dyno test from 2000 is included in the pictures. 388 Max HP, 372 Ft Lb Torque. The new dyno run on March 2, 2013,13 years later, recorded 3 runs. 388 HP, 392 HP, and 393 HP. Better than the original results. Copy of the dyno runs is in the pictures. The dyno was done using 4th gear and running up to red line. It hit a simulated 140 mph. 2. A Compression Test. I have no test before the performance package was installed in 2000. The current test run on March 5, 2013 shows an acceptable variation off of a 160 base line. 3. A Leakdown Test. Again, no test was made to the time of the changes in 2000. The are some variations with the latest test but is this due to wear or are the figures closer to what they were originally. The leakdown shows some loss on #5 and #8 but the technician didn’t feel it warranted any action at this time. The car pulls very well, you won’t be disappointed. 4. Full front to back safety inspection. Completed March 12, 2013. The car is ready for HPDE or cruising around town. The dyno test can be viewed on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MB6swfTANw Again, other than the original dyno I have no testing as to how the car left the factory or what figures would have been 12 years ago after the performance options were installed. If the leak test seems to be an alarm I can tell you that you’d never know it when you get on the gas.
