Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false EN-US JA X-NONE 1992 VW Jetta 1.6 GL Turbo Diesel Selling my beautiful ‘92 Turbo Diesel Jetta that has been extensively rebuilt and refurbished. This is a mostly finished car: all of the difficult and expensive engine, transmission and suspension work has been done. Need to thin the herd, and I have 2 jobs and just don’t have the time to work on it, so it needs to go to a good home where the finishing touches can be performed. Includes extra parts that have not yet been installed. Car was originally a 1.8 gasoline GL, but the previous owner had a used 1.6 TD professionally installed in 2007. Engine and suspension were tired when I got it, so I undertook an extensive rebuilding of the whole car. The car has had it’s motive power category changed with the DMV, and is now registered as a diesel. No smog certificate needed. Ever. Fuel and boost are currently set at stock levels for engine break-in. Car averages 39 to 42 mpg as is. Over 600 miles per tank. Factory MK2 diesels were stripped-down base models. This unique car is the best of both worlds: It’s a well equipped GL, big-bumper, last year of the MK2’s, with a transplanted turbo diesel. Please take your time, read the entire description, and look at the 50 + photos below. Here is a breakdown of what’s been done and what’s included: Engine: Freshly rebuilt 1.6 Turbo Diesel block, bored .5mm over. New Kolbenschmidt .5mm over pistons & rings. Brand new (not used) head, ported and polished. New everything: cam, lifters, valves, guides, seals, etc. ARP head studs and rod bolts. Beautiful polished G60 valve cover. Techtonics Tuning oil pan with baffle. Autotech windage tray. Rebuilt injection pump with shimmed governor spring. Timing set at .98. Rebuilt and pop tested injectors. Brand new injector lines. Rebuilt KKK K24 turbocharger. Techtonics Tuning 2 ¼” downpipe, ceramic coated, EGT probe installed. 2 ¼” exhaust out to the back, spintech muffler, resonator tip. Sounds great. Overboost valve block-off plate. A/C and power steering deleted. Hard to find OEM non-A/C bracket used to mount alternator in correct lower position. New Odyssey PC1500 battery. Many, many new parts: radiator, all hoses, belts, water pump, motor mounts, alternator, etc. This is built to be bulletproof, so that the fuel and boost can be cranked up and create some real power. Oil changed at 144,449 miles. I have been running B20 (20% bio, 80% diesel), but you can run it on regular diesel also. See build pics. Currently has a Spectre cone air filter temporarily zip-tied to the fuel filter bracket. Transmission: Completely rebuilt AOP 5-speed transmission. .71 fifth gear installed for highway cruising. Peloquin Limited-Slip Differential installed. 3.67 final drive. New inner and outer CV joints. Lightened flywheel. New 210mm clutch & pressure plate. New shift bushings throughout. Autotech short shift kit with weighted shift rod. Suspension / Steering: All new front bushings and ball joints. Front & rear Koni adjustable coilovers, currently set at medium stiff and slightly lowered. Upper and lower front stress bars. Eurosport rear tie bar. Autotech front and rear swaybars. Converted to manual steering with brand new rack, and custom made steering coupler. All new tie rod ends. 16 x 7” Borbet Type A wheels. Left front wheel is missing dust cap. Right rear wheel has a little curb rash. Excellent Bridgestone RE750 Sport tires: less than 5000 miles on them. Size 205/45-16. Brakes: Brakes work great. Front discs are very good. Brand new shoes and wheel cylinders in rear. Parking brake works great. Body/Paint: Body is in very good shape, with some tiny door dings on the sides, and a small dent around the passenger front side marker light. Unless you look at it from just the right angle, it’s very hard to see the little dents. See pics, though they don’t show up much there, either. Zero rust. West coast car since 1999. Original black paint is in very good shape for being 21 years old. Some fading on roof and hood, plus touched up tiny rock chips in front. Rear trunk spoiler paint is faded and peeling in some spots, touched up. Some weird little “boogers” that I tried to show in the pics, but again they don’t really show well. I’m being picky here, because this is a 21 year old car and I don’t want you to think the paint is perfect. Car looks great and gets compliments all the time. See pics. Just treated the black plastic bumpers, wheel flares, rockers, side moldings, and front spoiler with Wipe New. That stuff is amazing. Way easier and lasts longer than Back to Black or any of those waxes. They are black & beautiful, not grey. One of the plastic jack point covers is missing. Driver’s side front. See pics. Front radiator support, grille, and headlights replaced with GTI four light round setup. Inner Hella fog lights not yet wired up. Fog light harness with relay included. Windows tinted with lifetime warranty. One small rock chip in front windshield, on passenger side. Manual crank sunroof works perfectly and doesn’t leak. Tail lights replaced with “euro” style clear/red lights instead of ugly orange/red stock ones. Front turn signal lights and side “banana” lights replaced with smoked clear lenses and orange bulbs. Front and rear VW emblems blacked out. Rear “Jetta” emblem removed. Three small mounting holes taped from inside. Custom made “GTD” badge on rear trunklid. Front license plate has a scrape/dent where someone backed into it. Bumper is not damaged. See pics with plate off. Interior: OEM VW MK2 Jetta GLI Recaro seats, with all new foam and redone in grey leather. These seats are gorgeous, and I also had seat heater elements installed. The wiring is not yet hooked up, but I have all wiring, switches, relays, fuses, and instructions. These seats, including the custom foam and leather work, cost me $1000 alone. Already mounted heated seat controls in 2 blank dash switches. Door panels are nice but not perfect. I planned to cover them and the back seat in matching leather, but haven’t done that yet. Great dashboard, carpets, & rear seat. Perfect 1990’s vintage Grant leather steering wheel. Headliner is in great shape. No rips, tears, or sags. A little scuffed and dirty on the sliding sunroof part. See pics. Parking brake handle leather cover is worn. Shift boot isn’t very well connected to shift plate/console. Car originally had the horrible 90’s door mounted seat belts. I converted it over to the normal B- pillar mounted retractable style. Swapped over everything: belts, retractors, B pillar plastic covers, even the little plastic caps for the old door mount holes. There is a two inch missing area on the inside weatherstripping where the door mounts used to be. Doesn’t leak or make wind noise, just looks a bit funny. See pics. No radio. I replaced it with a 42 Draft Designs gauge plate. Boost and EGT gauge are hooked up and work perfectly. Temp gauge not yet connected. Currently has a small temp gauge and amp gauge replacing two of the blank dash switches. Dash has a very small dent to right of gauge plate, otherwise dash is beautiful. See pics. OEM temp gauge in cluster doesn’t work. Stock Tachometer is for a gas car, and doesn’t work with diesel engine. Digital conversion kit to make it work, including an optical pickup, is included but not yet installed. Speedo, fuel gauge and clock work. Speedo reads 5% high due to tire diameter. (At 60 MPH, reads 63.) Heater and fan work great. No A/C. Plastic triangle cover behind mirror on passenger door missing. Driver’s is fine. See pics. Trunk panels and carpet are great. Original space saver spare, jack and lug wrench included. Even the build sheet sticker is in great shape. What needs to be done: Driver’s door handle is partly broken, but still works. These are Audi style handles I got on eBay. See pic. Heated seats not yet wired up. All wiring and instructions included. Aftermarket air filter needs to have a mount made for it. Maybe make a cleaner fuel filter mount, too. Temp gauge needs to be wired up. Can’t find the sending unit after I moved. I’ll keep looking, but at the moment it is not included in sale. Interior is in great shape; needs rear seat and door panels finished in matching grey leather to be amazing. I think paint looks great for its age, and it's only original once, so I'd leave it as is. Perhaps I would unbolt rear spoiler and repaint that. Of course, there is more upgrading that could be done. I planned on adding an intercooler, cranking up the fuel and boost, adding cruise control. Your choice. Extra parts included, but not installed on car: All wiring, switches, etc. & instructions for heated seats. Switchblade key alarm system, includes 2 remotes. Keys already cut to fit. I searched everywhere for this VW switchblade style alarm – had to order it from the UK. 5 keys: 2 switchblade remote keys and 3 regular keys. Electric lock kits for all 4 doors and trunk. Fog light wiring harness and relay kit. Roof mount antenna. VW digital tach kit: allows stock gasser tach to work with diesel engine. Also outputs a signal that can operate cruise control. Info: www.4crawler.com/Diesel/CheapTricks/Tachometer/index.shtml#Kits Beautiful leather shift knob / boot that wires to 12v so the shift pattern on top lights up when lights are on. Needs some machining/rethreading of shift rod, and customization of boot or console to fit. 2 front all-weather floor mats. Original VW owners manual and window sticker. Clean Carfax report. Lots of receipts! Also includes: Extra set of 4 door panels in nice shape. Original "Aero" radiator support, grille, and headlights. Power side mirrors from a MK2 GLI. MK2 cruise control stalk. Misc box of extra parts. 4 Bosch oil filters. Car is located in El Cerrito, CA (SF Bay Area). If you are local and would like to come see it in person, let me know. I think I have covered everything here, but if you have any questions, feel free to contact me through eBay, email or phone. Please don’t ask if I’ll end auction early, take a lowball offer, etc. Deposit of US $500.00 within 48 hours of auction close. Full payment required within 7 days of auction close.
