Vehicle Detail
I bought this TR6 project a few months ago because I foolishly believed that I had the time and skill to finish this car sometime in the next couple of years. Looking realistically at the commitments on my plate (kid in college, work schedule, etc.) this isn’t going to happen. In addition, I already have a 1973 TR6 that seems to needs some attention all the time. Right now it is in a storage unit and it would be foolish to keep spending money on the storage unit for who knows how many years. So, what is the story on the car? I bought the car as shown from a retired gentleman in Ohio. He had started the restoration as a nut and bolt restoration and the pictures clearly show that. I have a CD with hundreds of pictures that will go to the winning bidder documenting the start of the project through the current state. Anyway, the owner developed a chronic health condition that prevented him from completing the project and I bought the project as he was moving to Florida. As you can see, this is developing as one of the higher quality restorations you will see on a TR6. The car has nothing but the best put on it and at this point literally EVERY NUT AND BOLT has been replaced, replated, or cleaned. For those who are familiar with TR6’s, you know that the previous owner put over $10,000 in just the frame and drivetrain you see in the pictures. That does not even include the body work or extensive list of new parts and spares still in boxes. The owner was not able to find the receipts because he was packed up for the move; however, below is a PARTIAL list of all that was purchased. He could not remember everything he had for the car and many items that I got with the car are not shown in this list. I have many boxes of new parts that are not on this list. Not included in this list is the money spent on restoring the frame, engine, and overdrive transmission. So, how can this get any better? Well, the previous owner also had the body restored! The tub, body panels, etc. were stripped and repaired. The car was painted white and is ready for reassembly. The tub is nice and straight (currently sitting loosely on the frame) and needs to be bolted down (even a new body mounting kit IS included). The old interior is included (including an extra pair of seats). The original dash and gauges are included. These parts have NOT been refinsihed. At this point, close to $20,000 in parts and labor alone have been spent (probably closer to $25,000…not even including the original purchase price of the car). Is there anything that could sweeten the deal any further? Absolutely! Also included is a spare running engine and OVERDRIVE transmission, bonnet, seats, gauges, 5 wire wheels,/hubs/ knockoffs, top frame assembly, windshield and frame, etc. I completely filled my Ford F-250 crew cab and a trailer when I brought everything home. I can’t even begin list everything…there is so much. This ad is long enough and I have probably lost most people by now. However, if you are still reading you know that this an opportunity to build a winning show car with most of the hard work and money already spent. I hate the idea of selling it; however, it’s just not my time to have such a fantastic project. The car has a clear title and you have 30 days to pick up the car. You can take longer to pick it up; however, you will pay the rental storage fee (Around $85/month). I expect payment in cash at pickup or wire transfer before pickup (to verify that everything clears). No bank checks, personal checks, third party checks, trades, etc. This is a unique opportunity. The parts alone total more than the starting bid…not to mention the many spares such as overdrive transmission, bonnet, etc. that can be sold. On a personal note I have owned many sports and exotic cars in the almost 30 years since I graduated college and this is one of the few cars that I truly have mixed emotions about selling. So much of the hard work has been done and so much money has been spent that it would be hard to ever find another project like this one. NOTE: THE FIRST PICTURE BELOW (WITH THE CAR ASSEMBLED) IS BEFORE THE RESTORATION STARTED!!!!!!!!!!!! The pictures that follow show the current state, The pictures below show the work that has been done to date. The car is NOT ASSEMBLED!!!!!!!!!!. Don't know if the engine was rebuilt; however, I am confident that at least the thrust washers were replaced! Spare Engine and Overdrive Transmission:
