The W140 or the big body benz is referred to as the best car ever made by MB and one of the last cars that was designed and built without considering the cost and it shows. It's a car made for royalty. Everyone that rides in it doesn't want to get out. It truly is an exceptional automobile. You cannot compare this car to any other. It is in a superior class of its own. It has every thing a driver and passenger could want and more. Door closing assists, standard armrest cooler, 13 Bose speakers with one between the windshield and the rear view mirror that is unmatched by any other car makers and is amazing to listen to. It is a beautiful and the most comfortable highway car I have driven and I have taken this car between Oregon and NY many times. It is powerful, strong and very quiet for a diesel. This car weighs a lot more than a 2-ton truck while condensed in a sedan size so it is built like a tank and feels like can drive through houses while not getting scratches on you. The car is quite beyond anything else out there, it makes you feel safe the moment you close the door. It feels like it's hewn from a single billet of steel; if I were going to have a crash, this is the car I would want to be in but for its massive weight it gets 26 mpg on highway and 19 mpg in the city driving. The car is amazing to drive, like a hippopotamus performing ballet. It's large, and it doesn't let you forget that when it comes to maneuvering into tight spots, yet it handles ever curve with such grace and ease. It commands the road and hugs the corners like a squashed bug. It's even more impressive to be a passenger in the rear seat, down the highway, it feels as if the scenery is moving and not the car.The car looks quite arrogant from the outside. It's a bit like the old German chancellor Helmut Kohl. Overweight, fat and conservative. Inside the interior seems to be quite serious. The interior fit and finish is excellent. Everything in the car feels like it is built like something to be passed on down the family for generations. It's built far better than it needs to be.When the W140 first came out it had 3 million test miles behind it. It's the car that won't die, and could be trusted on a long trip through extreme conditions. It was the most advanced car of its time. It is not uncommon to run into these diesel cars that reaches beyond 500k miles and many with 1 millions miles. There is no squeaks, rattles or cheap fittings in these cars, just endless quality. The comfort of the interior is first class, and it wears exceptionally well; still looks and smells like brand new despite its age.The reliability has been first class; Over the years it just got normal maintenance and wear and tear of things like a blower motor, fuses and filters. Window regulators wire snapped once but it is quite common because of the heavy double-pane window and its tight fitting. Surprisingly the OEM parts is only $100 plus the time to put it in. Other than that just oil changes, one set of new ceramic brake pads all around, which indecently were far cheaper to replace than my previous car. The car is in NY now but it spent its life in Oregon where the supermarket sells out when we get one inch of snow. We do not use road salt so you are not buying an rust bucket. If you win the car I have no hesitation to drive the car across the country to deliver it to you. 55 cents per mile if you arrange for my return trip.
