1979 Mercedes-Benz 450 SLC 5.0 Quite an outstanding car! I have owned this car since 2005 when I bought it from a retired TWA captain here in Southern California. At that time it had 86,754 miles. He treated it like "his baby", but due to his health and age he had to part with it ... I am in a very similar position. I also have babied the car keeping it garaged at all times and covered when I used it for my local golfing trips. Many articles have been written about the limited production 107-026 SLC coupes so do your research. There are supposed to be fewer than 50 of these models in the US and this is one of the finer examples available - they do not come up for sale very frequently and values should continue to appreciate. There are some minor cosmetic issues: very small crack in the dash near a defroster vent, the center console has some cracking and hazing, some minor paint chips from normal usage and the fuse box cover needs to be recovered and installed. Mechanically the car is in great condition with a May 2011 complete tune-up at 100,290 miles (new fuel injectors, new catalytic converter, new air thermostat, transmission service, spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter and Mobil 1 oil change). The servicing was done by George Zurek, a local independent Mercedes mechanic who I have used over the last 10 years or so. The air conditioning compressor is not working and probably needs to be repaired/replaced. The cruise control system works but could use some fine tuning (it is kind of "jumpy"). I have complete documentation of servicing and repairs since 1986. Note the car was imported from Germany in 1986, when it had 71,000 miles. The prior owner had a complete US conversion done at an expense of over $5,000, making it legal for California EPA and DOT. The velour seats, indicative of European models, have been protected by sheepskin seat covers since I have owned it and I suspect since the prior owner brought it to California. Hence the interior velour is in near perfect condition! The option codes for the car: 256: limited slip rear axle, 406: orthopedic front seat backrest, 410: electric sliding roof, 437: safety belts, 440: cruise control, 466: central locking, 480: self leveling suspension, 502: outside view mirror, right, 532: automatic antenna, 570: folding armrest, front, 586: air conditioner / electric windows, 590: insulated glass, 600: headlamp washer, 682: fire extinguisher, 812: rear speaker, 870: internal code, 871: electric seat heaters. Please note: the fire extinguisher is not available. I have not tried to test the seat heaters. The sound system was modified by the prior owner and I do not listen to the radio when driving, so I can't figure out how the radio works - it would seem logical to me that the new owner would install their own sound system.
