Vehicle Detail
1938 Plymouth Model P6 Business Coupe Limited production - few survivors Original condition - Restoration or unique street rod ? This very rare vehicle is totally original and is unmolested. The model P6 Business Coupe is a very low production vehicle, with few remaining making this an excellent restoration candidate - or unique street rod starting point. The history: The original owner, in his sixties, decided to marry for the first time. He contacted an estate sales house and sold everything except his personal clothes, even leaving food in the frig. The '38 Plymouth was on blocks in his garage. The vehicle was purchased by a small shop for restoration and resale - they knew the solid starting point it gave them and although not at fireside sale price a true value. They changed their mind during a economy downturn offering it for sell. I purchased it from them in '07 and put it up on jack stands where it has been since, stored in my heated/ac shop. As time passes for this senior citizen I realize I will never get to it with my backlog of other vehicle projects. So you will be the third owner of title record on a 75 year old vehicle!! Exterior and Sheetmetal: The vehicle appears to never have had any major collision repair. The frame is solid, sheetmetal original and overall in good condition. There is rust through on both lower quarter panels, trunk roll pan, and of course the running boards as shown in the photos. Replacement repair panels (pictured in the trunk) come with the vehicle and are straight forward to install for anyone with basic metal working skills and a welder. There is minor rust at the rear of the trunk area as shown needing a patch panel. Running boards are available from several sources depending on the style desired. The trunk lid lock is missing and the lid has a small dent. It has the original Gunmetal Gray paint and appears never to have been repainted. The waterfall grille and all trim, including the rare crank hole cover, are in good condition for the age. Chrome and trim: All the exterior trim, except the trunk lock, appears to be original and present with the exception of the drivers side hood latch. A replacement panel and latch come with the car. The bumpers appear to be original. Interior and glass: The original mohair interior seat is still in the vehicle, but in poor condition as is all the paneling and head liner. However, they provide templates for replacement pieces. The behind the seat spare and salesman storage shelves are in place covered by the original oilskin cloth like material. Side glass is in very poor condition with the driver's side vent window broken. Front and rear flat glass is in tact, but aged. All dash trim and parts, including the ignition key, are in place. Engine compartment and suspension: Original 201.3 cubic inch 6 cylinder engine (serial number P6 18053) - has oil, but I never attempted to start or turn it over. Odometer shows 47722 miles - unknown if this is actual or not. The coil is not original and not properly mounted. The radiator shows no sign of leaking and has been drained at some point. Original 3 speed manual transmission with free clutch. Original hydraulic brakes in unknown condition. Emergency brake condition unknown. Original size 6.0x16 steel wheels, spare in cab, and spare wheel in trunk. This model has a 112 inch wheelbase. ID and data tag: It was made in the Detroit, Mi plant. Vehicle Identification number 10478050. I have a clear Oklahoma title in my name for the vehicle. Additional items included: Two old/new replacement headlight glasses, and taillight lens, a glove box lock upgrade to the factory pull, replacement driver's side taillight stand, and headlight adjusting bolts, and a original 1938 sales brochure. Reserve: The reserve is set at a fair value for the vehicle in its original condition with the included parts. Terms of sale: This vehicle is available for inspection. It is being sold as is where is. There is no warranty written or implied. I have attempted to fairly describe the vehicle, but am not a professional. Please contact me with any questions before bidding. I reserve the right to remove bidders with low ratings. A $1000 non-refundable PayPal deposit is due within 2 days of auction end. The balance is due within 7 days of auction end by certified bank check, or cash if picking the vehicle up in person. The vehicle will not be released until the check has cleared into my account. The buyer is responsible for arranging transportation of the vehicle at his expense. The vehicle should be presented to the transporter as non-running without brakes. I will not be responsible for resolving any representation dispute with your transporter regarding the vehicles operational condition.
