Vehicle Detail
This British car collector and vintage racer is selling his 1960 Austin Healey 'Bugeye' Sprite after holding it for 8 years. Ideal for a restoration as I can not go further from this point due to many projects and racing expenses. Wanted to restore it further, but would rather race, so no go now. It is a running, driving 'Bugeye, fun, fun fun.. I believe I am the third owner. Was purchased from the previous owner some eight years ago He bought it in a 'barn' find from a little old lady's barn on a farm in the midwest and who had parked it eons ago and let it sit. The 'bugeye' shows 11,126 miles on the odometer, though I doubt it. When I retitled it in Virginia, the title I got WAS DEEMED ORIGINAL (go figure) with original miles by a very tough DMV. That's a bonus for you! The title is clear. I will say the car runs very tight, shifts wonderfully with very little throw in the gearbox (synchro 3rd and 4 th only) gets up and goes very quick ! It has a lot of original gear under the tilt up bonnet. Everything in the drive train, from the engine to the rear axle appears to me to be original and appears to not have been apart but can't guarantee it. The original 948CC four cylinder engine and the original dual SU carbs are evidenced by the old time original spark plug wire caps, the screened pancake filters on the carbs Oil pressure at 45-60 psi at the start and stays 40-50 psi afterward. After replacing the wiring harness to completely new as it was eaten up by the varmits, voltage regulator replaced, gas tank cleaned, the engine started right up with little trouble, wants to smoke at first, but then clears up and once it gets warm the smoke disappears. Runs and drives great ! You can tell the car was originally baby blue, was painted Porsche Red when I bought it. It needs a paint job if you want to restore it, but ok as is, but wouldn't be too bad to restore it as all of the body is in sound excellent condition except for fender beads and a heavy gauge sheet metal floor pan replacement effort, also before I got it.. They have been painted black with a heavy coat of rustoleum. Oddly enough, solid as is. There is some telltale rust in some places but NOT terminal. Being racers, we sorted out the mechanicals to put it in safe driving condition and as I mentioned the engine did not need to be rebuilt at all, reworked the brakes, serviced the shocks, drained, cleaned gas tank, added new seats, black with red piping, reworked seat frames and supports, and put in new switches, etc. on dash when we did the wiring harness, and all lights work and were rewired. Have tachometer cable and speedometer cable to install, may even get to it before auction end, if not will credit $ 100 bucks for the effort it will take from the sale price. Radio just for show, doesn't work. Have new ragtop bows (frame) and existing convertible top is not bad, pretty good except for one hole (right rear) that one of my friendly furry garage varmits chewed out a nice circle, the little beggar. Have 'side curtains' too, but plexi-glas needs replacing and new seals. All in all, really original at 53 years old and very fun car to drive, 5 point start with little choking, replaced the fuel pump by the way. All in all it is a great little 'Bugeye'. Be reminded, I am selling this with no warranty, as is, where is, no representations made, what you see is what you get. Must have Paypal account to bid, period. Don't bid if you can't or won't pay for it as required. Good luck. Will assist with pick up by your carrier. No shipping included. Once again, as is, where is, what is, no warranty expressed or provided.
