Vehicle Detail

Here we have a nice 1971 model VW Panel Bus, date of manufacture is 10/70. This is "the" Bus people want to actually drive and not just let sit in their garage, LAST year for the mighty dual-port 1600, FIRST year for power front disc brakes, and best of all it's a Panel. I am selling this Bus for the original owner, the title is in his name free and clear with a current California non-operation certificate. Health concerns made him unable to drive this Bus so he parked it in his garage (NOT outside storage) in 2005. I recently towed it to my home, cleaned it up a bit and have it ready to sell. First and most important, it was parked in 2005, it does not currently run. Although the battery looks brand new it has sat for too long and will not take a charge. The motor turns over and everything looks good, it was a running and driving vehicle before it was parked 7 years ago. The tires have tread and hold air but are old and should be replaced soon. It's important to note again it's been stored inside, so no squirrels or other critters have chewed up the wiring or built nests in the engine bay. There is a near new high quality tow bar included, I used it to tow this Bus on the freeway for over an hour and it towed great! As I said I'm selling this Bus for the original owner, he bought it new in 1971 and used it as his weekend surf camper, wood paneling was installed along with porthole windows and two sunroofs. The body is straight and the paint is original, the little bit of bodywork you see is all there is, no hidden bodywork or pounds of body filler. It has never been in a major accident, just bumped in parking lots. There was the typical spare tire carrier mounted up front, I removed it to show the front nose is still straight and not rusted out, but there are still the 4 mounting holes to deal with or reinstall the tire carrier as it's included. NO, and let me say this again, NO ROT, just some surface rust inside in the back cargo on the floor where the original paint chipped off. All along the windshield and along the drip rails look great. The glass is good, all the doors open and close, I don't see any serious issues. There are some small items typical with many old VW's that need attention, like the drivers door only opens from the inside, I'm sure it's an easy fix but I'll leave that for the next owner. The motor has been replaced and is not original, but he stayed with a stock 1600, no hot rod parts, and it has all it's original stock parts like air cleaner and such. The original owner is a retired Aerospace Engineer, so no kids have ever owned it and had the chance to lower it or find something else awful to do to it. Ask any questions you may have, and if you want to stop by and see it or have a friend look it over that would be GREAT! I want you to know what you're buying and be happy with what you get, I'm describing it as best I can but with all used vehicles this is an AS-IS sale of a non-running vehicle.
