Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is a beautiful 1968 Pontiac Firebird 400/400. This car is all original with numbers matching 400. I confirmed this by ordering the PHS Documentation. This car is in great condition considering that it has never been restored. The car came with original power drum brakes, power steering, and a/c. It has soft ray glass all around. The wheels still retains the original wire wheel discs. The ignition was upgraded to a petronix setup. The parchment interior has never been touched. Front seats and rear seats are in great shape showing only a litte wear. Dash and console pieces are in great condition. There are a few cracks in the steering wheel. Rear windows work with a little help. Driver and passenger windows work well. The exterior of the car is in great shape as well. The previous owner said that there was a partial re-paint at some point in the seventies. The paint shows incredible for being mostly original. The vinyl top has been replaced. The previous owner said that the roof was re-painted and a new parchment vinyl top was put on. Upon receiving the car a few years ago, there was a knock in the front end. This turned out to be the bushings on the upper control arm. I removed and rebuilt the entire front end. All wear parts were replaced and all factory pieces were blasted and repainted. The car drives and starts without a problem. The engine sounds great with a newer dual exhaust from flow master. I did notice that the transmission did not down shift. Its is missing the kick-down switch. I believe this happened when the previous owner switched out the carburetor to an edelbrock 750. He did not have the original carburetor for it. The 400 trans does shift manually without a problem. When i bought this car I was told it was rust free. Upon looking around and crawling underneath, I did notice a couple of small spots. There is one spot on the bottom of the passenger door. I do have a picture of this spot. Also, there some surface rust about the size of a dime on the passenger side floor pan. This spot has two small pinholes on it that u can barely see. Floor pans are solid tho. Rocker panels are solid and have no rust on them. There is a surface rust spot on the inside of the trunk about the size of a quarter. This just needs to be wire wheeled and painted. The trunk pan is completely solid. I compared the notes from the PHS documentation and the engine unit number matches the block. 442926 YT. The transmission is original and also down to the original rear end. The rear end is XB which is a standard axle with 2:56 ratio. This firebird runs and drives great. There are no real problems with it. The car shines up well and is in excellent original condition. I have tried to be as honest about the firebird to the best of my knowledge. This car is a great piece of Pontiac History. I have additional photos upon request. Thanks for looking.
