Vehicle Detail

After WW2, plenty of veterans brought their new found love for the sports car back home with them. At the same time throughout the country, young men were turning their 1930s Fords into hot rods and jalopys. The American auto makers started cranking up horsepower thru the 1950s. It was only a matter of time before these two camps converged. Although the most iconic of all the Anglo/American V8 sports cars is Carroll Shelby's AC Cobra, plenty of other craftsmen both before and after Mr. Shelby were building their own version of a hot rod sports car. The need for both straight line speed and handling along with sports car looks made these hybrid sports car hot rods some of the highest performing cars built in this era-even competing with Ferrari and other exotics on both the track and on the street. This particular car is very well built. The devil is truly in the details on these cars and the quality of the craftsmanship can make all the difference. This car was built way back in the day with all the original details of its original build still intact. Plenty of people upgrade these cars with modern suspensions, brakes, injection systems, etc. and good for them, especially if the car is a rusty project, but that's just not my style. If you're looking for a car that is a 1960s time warp then read on. Let's take a closer look at this car.. MECHANICAL: This car comes equipped with an early Ford V8 and automatic transmission. Although I don't have the internal specs on the motor, trust me when I say it runs very strong. I've spent a good bit of time, effort, and $$ going over the mechanical details of this car. The motor has been tuned, carb rebuilt, and it runs very nicely. The brake wheel cylinders and master cylinder are all new. When you step into this car with the engine cold, just pump the gas a few times and turn the key. It fires right up and settles down to a nice idle. The very nicely done exhaust sounds great-not TOO loud but just loud enough. Put her in gear and give her some gas...the engine comes alive with a roar! The transmission shifts well and puts the power down to the rear end with no problems. When you need the slow down the brakes do the job. But be careful! For those people used to modern ABS brakes or even disc brakes this car requires a bit more finesse and planning-just like it did back in the 1960s. COSMETICS: This car gets more looks going down the road than anything else out there. It looks great but is not a show car. No trailer queen here, this car is a driver with an older driver quality paint job. Although the paint has a nice shine, it has a few chips here and there in the paint and maybe a scratch or two. Personally, it's just how I like my cars-looking good but no worries if I park it outside my favorite diner. More importantly, as anyone who deals with old cars, what is the rust status on this car? Although this car hasn't been disassembled to my knowledge for a ground up restoration, there has been a minimum of rust repairs on this car. The frame is solid with no found rust (or modifications), the main body and even the rockers look good. I've found hints of some fiberglass on the lip of the trunk (boot) lid and on literally an inch or two of where the rocker meets the body in the rear and front and some on the inner rear wheel wells. Please look carefully at my picture link as I've taken plenty of undercarriage shots. I've dealt with many older British cars and this is as rust free original car from this time period as I have ever seen. The Crager G/T wheels are a fantastic period addition to the exterior and look great tucked in those fender wells. The interior looks cool with the aluminum dash and VDO gauges. I had all the gauges rewired and they all work correctly including the turn signal on the steering wheel. The rest of the interior looks good with some average wear and tear. I have the side curtains for the car. The plexiglass is cracked on one of them. I also have a top frame in excellent condition. But who wants to have to put a top up on this car! It was made for sunny days and clear nights and the open road ahead. SUMMARY: Original early 60's period correct V8 Austin Healey 2 seater in turn key condition.
