Vehicle Detail
1962 Corvette Convertible, original Fuel Injection car! 1 of only 1,918 fuelies' built in 1962. Beautiful show quality that is also fully functional, mechanically sound, making it an excellent driver. This 1962 ex-fuelie Corvette was reportedly in the same family for over 34 years in sunny California. From the factory the car was born Honduras Maroon with black interior. It also came with the first FI 327 cubic inch, 11:1 compression ratio, solid lifters and big port heads, 360hp motor. The motor is original to the car but the original Fuel Injection system has been removed. Replaced with a Carter AFB 4 bbl carb from a 64-65 era Corvette. The car reportedly had a frame up restoration back in the 90's. During the restoration the car was disassembled from front to rear and parts were all cleaned and inspected or replaced. All original parts were used and in some cases better than original NCRS approved parts. Car was reportedly repainted in the last 10 years, (Paint looks great)...color base coat, clear coat (two stage). The doors, hood and trunk lid line up and operate and close properly. The wheel well edges/lips are undamaged and in perfect shape. Missing tire jack but has tire iron. No washer fluid bottle. Engine runs perfect, needs nonthing, excellent compression, doesn't smoke (run Mobil-1 Full Synthetic oil). If you look at the pictures on the drivers side fender there are a few places in the paint which are wavy, underneath one can find where there was some body work or fiberglass work done sometime in its history. Frame and under-carrage looks great with no signs of any rust! Trunk and area where convertible top folds down is all in excellent shape. * Vin #20867S101970 (making it production #1970, out of 14,531 total built) Production numbers reportedly shows the production date of October 25th/26th, 1961 * Engine Casting Number: GM 3782870 with A214 stamped on P/S rear of block * Engine Date Stamp: F0217RF * Engine VIN Stamp: 2101970 * Harrison Overflow Tank Date/Numbers: 3151016 dated 62B * Original Exhaust Manifolds: (Not on car but goes with sale of car) D/S #3797901..P/S #3797902 * Cylinder Heads: Camel Hump dated #3782461 with casting #3797901 and 3797902 * Metal Vin tag located under hood on steering column: Vin #20867S101970 (This vin plate had reportedly had worked loose at some time and someone attempted to be put it back on by pot welding it back to the original location but it appears was unsuccessful and ended up using JB Weld to attached the tag back to its original position on the column.) * New high quality soft top and frame! Frame was custom made by Sully's (Aircraft quality steel), expensive! * New OEM Windshield, with all new rubber gaskets and side support braces/post were upgraded with steel inserts and studs for strength, psot were chromed, passes NCRS rules. * Intake Manifold: #3795397 (Dated for a 62 Corvette 340 hp) * Carburator: #3721SB D09 (dated correct for 1964-65 Corvette 300hp 327) Carter AFB Carb (Rebuilt 4 bbl).....Note: the original Fuel Injection Unit would be #7017355 * Currently the car has a replacement Mallory Unilite electronic distributor with tach drive (#3864501) Note: the correct dual point distributor would be dated 1110990 for early production 1962 Corvette Fuelie 360hp * Transmission is a Warner 4-speed (Reportedly Rebuilt) # R-1 T10-7D W.G. Div * Rear End Housing appears to be original positraction housing however the 3rd member and cover has beed changed out. The casting #3735899 GM dated J93, believed to have a non positraction 3.08:1 gear ratio. Note: The correct numbers would be 3789812 with a production date prior to the car production date 10-25-61. Corvette offered a variety of gear ratios in 1962 with a large "P" on case designating it to be a Positraction. * Like new Harrison Aluminum Radiator Part #3150916...61J * Has replacement windshield wiper motor from JPL with 2 speed with delay, looks original, great investment. (Included is original wiper motor and cables and switch) * Have already replaced D/S door window regulator and have P/S which comes with car if ever needs replaced (Zip Products). * Other original parts that go with car but currently are packed away in boxes for safe keeping: Original Chrome Distributor Shielding Original Steering Wheel (Has replacement original wheel currently) Original rear exhaust pieces Original Radiator Original Fan Blade Original Windshield Wiper motor Original Starter * All original gauges work with original Fuelie high hp tachometer (6500 rpm redline) although speedometer and tach probably needs rebuilt for more accuracy! * Car comes with Corvette Car Cover * Original Wonder bar Radio included but out of car and not working, needs rebuilt but good overall condition. * Have most receipts on parts purchased over the years. This car drives excellent, front end has definitely been rebuilt sometime. Pump accelerator twice and the engine always starts right up. Previous owner claims the car still had the original solid lifters but i have never taken the valve covers off to verify that, seams too quiet for solids but not for sure. Tires are all in good shape, currently has P215/70r15 Radials. This original fuelie has all the tale tale signs to authenticate it being an original fuelie (as seen in the pictures). The correct rebuilt fuelie system plus air breather box will set one back $7,500.00 up to $12,000.00, based on current market prices. Correct rear end housing would set one back approximately $1,500.00 for the Positraction rear end (3.08:1 - 3.36:1 - 3.55:1 - 3.70:1) plus installation. Take the car and drive it as is or show it as you gradually complete the restoration back to original condition which will only appreciate in value over the years. These original fuelie cars are hard to find..... Corvette has clean/clear Oregon Title. Unfortunately the hard top is in storage, unable to get pictures of it at this time, but in excellent condition. It was painted along with the body of the car at the same time, matches perfect. **************** Just to relate to the potential of this car, there are two other 1962 Corvette Fuelies listed on EBAY presently with a Buy it now price of #1) $109,900 and the other #2) $148,800......Wake up buyers ************* If you have any questions or need more pictures please don't hesitate to contact me and i'll get them to you!
