Vehicle Detail

ORIGINAL 1970 MUSTANG MACH I HEAD TURNING GRABBER GREEN VIN 0F05M120623 This MACH I was originally delivered to the Bob Morse Ford dealership in Ottawa, Illinois in October of 1969. Being produced in October makes it an early 1970 model, the new models were released in August for the following year at that time. The Body Tag decodes as follows: Body 63C—2 Door Fastback MACH I, Color Z—Grabber Green, Trim 3A—Black Clarion Knit/Corinthian Vinyl Bucket Seats, Axle O—3.00:1 Traction-Lok Axle Ratio, Trans X—FMX Select-Shift Cruise-O-Matic, DSO 56-Davenport Ordering District. HISTORY: This 1970 Grabber Green was first purchased May 15th, 1970 in Ottawa, Illinois. On May 25, 1973, 14,000 miles later, it was sold to the original owners sister with the understanding that they would have first chance to buy it back if it was ever sold. The second owner had their Ford dealer add the Optional FORD rear window slats shortly after purchasing the car. On July 17, 1974 the car was sold to a third person without the original owners knowledge. When the original owner found this out they tried to buy the car back.....but it did not happen and they gave up all hope of ever getting the car back again. On February 22, 1977 the car was sold with 61,367 miles on it. The fourth owner owned a repair garage and planned to keep the car and restore it at a later date. The car was stored inside for NINE years! Fast forward to 1986. The original owners read an article on a person who tracked down a car they used to own and bought it back. So they went to work tracing titles with the state and tracking the car down. They found it, only 50 miles from their home, and were able to buy it back on May 28, 1986, with 66,000 ORIGINAL miles on it. It was covered in “primer gray” with just a little of the Grabber Green showing on the tail panel. They took the car to their uncle for a complete repaint. The lower quarter panels were replaced with NOS (new old stock-Ford) panels, all the rest of the body including the floors were still solid. There are absolutely NO signs of body repair anywhere on the car. The seat covers and headliner are ORIGINAL, the dash pad was replaced during restoration in 1986. The car and the Original Owners story made it into three top Mustang magazines, making the cover of Mustang Monthly in the early 90’s. Once completed, they drove the car very little, only to shows and on special occasions. It was shown in MCA’s Trailered Concours classes at National shows. A total of only 4,000 miles between 1986 and 2008! In June of 2008 it had 71,480 ORIGINAL MILES. The transmission has been rebuilt, but the engine has never been opened up and it still runs like new.....all 300 horses. You can tell that this car has been babied all of it’s life, just by looking at the PERFECT 26 year old paint job and the fact that all of it’s parts are original or NOS Ford. Copies of all the magazines featuring this MACH I, the Marti Report, Original Owners Manual, Original Bill of Sale, Original Window Sticker, and copies of all the Illinois Titles issued since new go to the new owner. A COMPLETE history of this beautiful 1970 Grabber Green MACH I. DETAILS: I purchased this MACH in June of 2008 and completely detailed the car, inside, outside, and underside! Most areas were detailed to MCA (Mustang Club of America) Occasional Driven Class guidelines. This MACH 1 is 95% ORIGINAL!! The ORIGINAL…not a reproduction…Owners Manual goes with the car. Except for the lower rear Quarters, ALL sheetmetal is original, including all floor pans. There are no signs of body repair or rust anywhere on the car. All seat covers are in excellent condition and are the originals. The engine compartment is highly detailed in the correct manner using the same MCA guidelines. The engine IS Ford Corporate Blue although some of the pictures do not look like it. The M-Code 351-4V Cleveland is in excellent condition and still has all the correct original attaching parts. The trunk area is also detailed out to original specs. The spare tire matches and has never been on the ground. The COMPLETE original jack is also packed as it came from the factory. The headlights on this MACH I are the original incandescent type, not halogen. They could be the originals?? Almost every nut, bolt and screw that has been taken out, cleaned up and put back are the original parts. All of these parts have the original stampings on them. There are even some factory paint markings on the undercarriage and NO signs of any front, side or rear damage repairs or rust. The doors line up PERFECTLY and open and close like new ones, tight, and without rattles. All the MACH I striping is the correct, original matte black. The paint is 26 years old and looks as good as the day it left the showroom. It is a single stage enamel paint with the correct orange peel finish. All of the glass is the Original “Carlite” glass and in very good condition. The weather stripping is excellent and still very supple. It still flexes and seals to the glass as it should. This shows that the car was very well taken care of, indoors in a dry climate. ALL aspects of the car operate properly except for the sport lamp switch and the clock. The sport lamps in the grille have been spliced in to go on with the parking lamps. The clock works as long as the car is in use and it gets jostled every once in awhile. The AM radio works, but is not hooked up. There is a Secret Audio AM/FM control head with remote in the glovebox. This gives you todays radio technology with the look of the original radio in the dash. The M-Code 351-4V Engine runs very strong and sounds GREAT thru the “true” dual exhaust system. At both idle and acceleration the sound is very “muscle car” with a slight lope to it. The transmission is tight and shifts perfectly. The suspension and steering are tight and operate as they should. You can drive this car straight down the road and around slight curves at any speed with just your little finger….the steering and control are that tight!! There is no steering wheel “wiggle” needed to keep it in a straight line and the ride is very smooth. The “like new” tires are aggressive Raised White Letter Firestone P215/70R-14 All Season and run very smoothly and quietly. The car came with the stock one piece hubcap/trim ring setup you see in the pictures, each weights about 10 pounds. Most people do not realize that you could not order a 1970 MACH 1 with Magnum 500 wheels as an option. The wheels have been balanced perfectly….the OLD way, on the car. This way, the hubcap, drums, wheel and tire are all balanced perfectly. Many, many hours have been spent cleaning and detailing the car to keep it up to the MCA specs needed for an occasional driven show car. It would not take a whole lot to bring this MACH back up to Concours Driven or Trailered standards. This MACH 1 has scored a First at any MCA National show it has been in and 99% of the MCA Regional shows it goes into. EQUIPMENT: It is equipped with: Vinyl High Back Bucket Seats, Deluxe Interior, Competition Suspension, Color Keyed Racing Mirrors, Console Mounted Shift Lever, Full Console, Front Chin Spoiler, Rim Blow Deluxe Steering Wheel, Instrument Gages, Rocker Panel Moldings, Rear Deck Lid Tape Stripe, Deep Dish Sports Wheel Covers, and Color Keyed Carpeting. ORIGINAL FACTORY OPTIONS: 351 CID 4V 8 Cylinder Engine, Rear Deck Spoiler, Select Shift Cruise O Matic, Traction Lok Differential, Convenience Check Group, SHAKER Hood Scoop, Power Steering, Power Front Disc Brakes, AM Radio.
