Vehicle Detail
1978 Mercedes 450 SEL - with the 4.5 liter engine (see questions) I have had this car for about 4 years. It is a daily driver for my 4 mile commute each day. The Good: The engine sounds and runs perfect. No noises, clunks, vibrations, misfires, smoke. I would drive this across country tomorrow. The transmission has no issues, it shifts as it should, no slips, grinds, clunks, whines, etc. There are no leaks. There is no braking issues, brakes worth perfect. It is a great running car. It rides like you are sitting in a lazy boy in your front room. It has been previously gone through, the vacuum lines are like new and some relays were replaced before I got it. Up until this year, it has been in southern California. All lights work and there are no dents. Maintenance:I have done all maintenance on the car during the last four years. I have changed oil, serviced the transmission, air filters etc. I have also done the extra additives for fuel, oil and transmission to keep in good shape. In the last year, I did the plugs and plug wires, serviced the rotor, fuel assembly and replaced the thermostat. The Project portion:The speedometer works, but the mileage only clicks about 1/5th of the time. It says 102,000, but using records, I estimate it has about 115000 on it. The driver window motor has been replaced, but needs completed. The side panel is currently off, but the panel is included in the sale and will be provided at purchase. The passenger window motor should be replaced. It goes up and down, but the last couple teeth are worn out. The part is about $120 plus some time. I have hands like oven mitts and can't get in there to complete those. The air conditioning is not functional. All the parts are there. I suspect the temperature controller inside the cabin may have something to do with it. The heater works great and as it should. The sunroof worked until we came to Oregon. Finally, it starts after cranking at 7 seconds. Not 6, or 8 at 7 seconds. It starts fine/immediately when running errands, just the first start of the day takes exactly 7 seconds. There are some posts about it online and I suspect something needs cleaned out. Please email me with any questions, the pictures should show what you need to make a decision. I will be heading to southern California the weekend before Christmas. Arrangements can be made for some kinda of delivery in CA if on my way south for maybe $1.00 a mile. Otherwise, I will help with whatever you need to have it shipped professionally at your expense.
