Vehicle Detail
I purchased this vehicle on eBay in 2007 for $5,000 based on the vehicle description below (the text after the asterisks). When I received the vehicle, I found some unexpected things and set out to do a restoration project which I am unable to complete. The vehicle has sat in my garage for 4 years now, and I do not foresee being able to complete the project. I am therefore selling the vehicle. The items I found that were not in the original description or were different from the original description are as follows. The carpet was unusable. It had to be removed and discarded. Much of the plastic trim inside the vehicle was brittle to the touch and stank of rotted plastic. Several pieces are still usable. I have removed all of the vinyl and plastic trim and paneling and placed it in a cardboard box and placed the box inside the vehicle. Some of the rubber weather stripping requires repair. It remains in place on the vehicle, but will require some attention in various places. Ultimately, the entire interior of the vehicle needed to be removed for the project I set out to undertake, which was to make the vehicle better and nicer than it was when it was new. The only things still inside the vehicle are the front seats, dash board, and steering wheel. All other vinyl and plastic trim and paneling has been removed and placed in a cardboard box inside the vehicle. Many of the pieces can still be used including the door panels, but others, such as the thin pieces that line the roof, are brittle and stink. They are included as a reference for what will need to be fabricated or replaced with OEM parts. As far as all that plastic and vinyl stuff goes, I had just planned to have it all fabricated so that the car would be better than new when finished. I was in discussions with guys online who sell weather stripping, guys who do custom leather interiors, and local shops that do custom fiberglass and other such fabrication. I originally planned to make an audio system panel in place of the back seats. Unfortunately I didn’t keep the back seats. They are not included in this auction. More notes on the interior: I planned to put an expensive audio system in the vehicle and therefore first set out to implement significant sound dampening. The entire interior of the vehicle is covered in liquid sound deadener. I lay down a good half inch or so across the entire floor of the vehicle along with the door panels, trunk floor and trunk lid. I then went about laying down sticky sound deadener sheets with the shiny foil-like surface on major areas of the floor. At a certain point while I was still working on the project, the vehicle was outside and a particularly large nut or something from a tree fell on the trunk lid and put a depression into it (pictured). It’s not too bad at all, but I must disclose it for the sake of clarity and thoroughness in the auction description. Other than that, the body on this vehicle is in excellent condition. The vehicle really is a truly magnificent canvas from which to create something stunning. Were it not so, I would have demanded a return from the eBay seller from whom I bought it. But I didn’t because there were so many things going for this vehicle. I purchased a 12” woofer enclosure for the trunk. It accommodates 2 12” subs. I can include it if desired. This auction comes with the premium car cover that cost $60. I purchased an Asian Wolf security system, the biggest best one they had for $280 in 2007. It’s sitting in a box inside the vehicle. It has every conceivable function. I upgraded the performance chip along with the required special thermostat to go with it. Those items alone were about $75 or so. The empty box for those items is inside the vehicle, so you can look them over to determine if you want them to remain installed or not. Back when I was working on this project in 2007, the engine ran well. I used to start it up every so often just to rev it for a thrill. It could probably be heard a half mile away – truly thunderous. Now the battery is dead. The door and trunk keys have been lost. Sorry. You will only receive a single ignition key. At this point the rims are very dirt from dust. I’ve coated them in WD40 to make sure they are protected from deterioration. I checked their condition by wiping one of them down to look at it. The rims are in like-new condition. They’re just gorgeous. But, as I said, they’re quite dirty at the moment. At any rate, they were $2000 new and are still in like-new condition. So, that’s something. Everything else in the description below which was included in the eBay item description in 2007 when I bought the vehicle is truthful. ********************************************************************************************** You are bidding on a 1992 convertible Firebird. It has a 5.0 TBI V8. This is not a hot rod nor has it been driven like one. I purchased the car from a gentlemen who left the car sit for 5 years before I bought it. Mechanically the car is very sound. There was a rebuild on the motor before I purchased it, and I have put about 5 thousand miles on the car in 2 and a half years. I have loved this car, and it is a definite head turner. The best part about it is that most women cant tell the difference between this and a corvette. Here is some info about different parts of the car : MOTOR: The motor is a 305 throttle body injection. There is a oil sending unit that leaks, but when I say it leaks, I mean it is a residual leak, its such a small leak that it has never left a drop in my drive way. There is no knocks ticks or rattles inside the motor. Everything is stock and everything is there and intact. Scheduled maintence has been performed as well as preventitive maintenance. I am a mechanic at Advanced Car Care in Texas, so needless to say I know how important it is to keep a engine running good with no leaks. TRANSMISSION: 700R4 Overdrive (automatic) .The tranny has a rear output shaft seal leaking (about $2.33) I just havnt had the time to take the drive shaft out and replace it. Like the sending unit, this leak is absolutly minor, leaving no traces in my driveway, only residue around the seal. The shifting between gears is flawless and smooth. The tranny was serviced about 2 years ago when I first purchased the vehicle due to a leaking pan gasket. Needless to say, the fluid looks good. BODY: The car has never seen a major accident. It has been repainted since I have owned it due to the fact that is sat for 5 years in the sun. When I had it painted I did notice that the front bumber had been repainted previously before, partly due to the fact that this car sits so low to the ground. There is NO MAJOR DENTS. THERE IS NO BODY RUST. There is 1 minor dent on the hood and one minor dent on the trunk. These dents are so small that they dont even show up in pictures, but of course I have to tell abou them because it is not perfect. There is absolutly no road tar in the fender well lips or ground effects. There is no rust in the fender well lips. The doors are solid and clean flushed when closed. As is the hood, trunk and tonneau cover. (the convertible lid) The windsheild does have a crack that starts eye level on the passenger side and goes to the bottom on the drivers side. This is about a $100 windsheild, that is easily replaced. The front headlight motors were replaced shortly after I purchased this vehicle so they work perfectly in unison (together). All lights work on the vehicle including the third brake light in the spoiler. Fortunate for you I have replaced all 5 bulbs in the third brake light because those bulbs are $14.00 a peice! This is one of the coolest cars from the rear at night time because when you hit the brakes all the lights in the back light up all the way across the car. CONVERTIBLE TOP: The convertible top is new as well as the weatherstripping. There is no tears holes or stains on the top. The top will not leak in rainwater, nor driving conditions with moderate rain. The doors mesh well with the weatherstripping when the top is up creating a nice tight seal when you shut the doors. The headliner as well is new with no imperfections. The tonneau cover latch and electric motor work perfectly. (the electric motor is the actuators that release the tonneau cover.) The actual top is a manual engaged top, they did not offer a electric raise top for the Firebirds. SUSPENSION: There is aftermarket shocks that were put on before I purchased the vehicle. One of the rear shocks has trace residue of shock oil on the lower half, but I have not noticed shock failure while driving. I planned on putting a 1 inch lowering springs on the vehicle front and rear, and I suggest this to the high bidder. It has a tight front end with a very good alignment (needless to say it drives straight down the road when you let go of the wheel). TIRES AND RIMS: The rims are Boss 304-18. These are chrome rims not polished aluminum. The rim size is 18x9 on all 4 wheels. These are $1800 rims which I purchased about 8 months ago. The tires are Toyo Proxes FZ-4 with sizes 145-40-18. These tires have about 2 thousand miles on them and cost me about $800. I replaced one of the tires with Copper tire becasuse I sliced a sidewall with some debris.(dont worry, it didnt hurt the car)This was done about a week ago, so that tire has about 70 miles on it. INTERIOR: The interior is exceptionally clean especially for a convertible. It does need new carpet due to stains and a new center console arm rest due to leaning on the arm rest it has wore out the pad inside and has a little bumb that comes up the middle. The seats are not sun faded and the pads inside the seat are not wore out at all. The seat controls work perfectly. The tonneua cover interior trim is not cracked or sun faded. The drivers side door is missing the cup holder that goes on the bottom of the door. I have not yet priced this item, for it was one of the last things that I was going to replace. Both door panels are in excellent condition for a convertible. Most of the time they are rotted out because they get wet. All guages work as well as every single light around the whole car. Options include power windows, tilt, power steering, power locks, power mirrors. I did have a aftermarket stereo professionaly installed which is a Pioneer Super Tuner 3-d 50Wx4. This is a satellite ready head unit. I replaced both window motors about 2 years ago. This vehicle is equiped with drivers side airbag. To sum it all up, this is a very nice car, that has been treated well. I have been watching ebay auctions on these for a while and have noticed that a lot of guys dont take good pictures of the tops or ever tell you if they leak. Another thing is the engine. I dont understand how just 3 pictures and a description saying it runs strong can sell a car. How about noises? What about oil leaks? How does it drive? Most sellers try to tell you the bare minimum, I have done the complete opposite. Let me put it this way.....I moved to Texas not to long ago and was not able to trailer my Firebird down here, so I had my mother drive it from St. Loius to here and I flew her back. If I will put my own mother in a vehicle to drive 750 miles and know that she wont have problems, then you can trust that I feel like this car is reliable. (and it looks so damn cool) It gets about 20 to 22 miles to the gallon when driven properly. This is a highway cruiser because at 65 mph you are only pushing 1500 rpm. The high bidder may fly to Waco, Texas via American Airlines connecting flight. I will pick you up from the airport and you may drive the vehicle home if you wish. Like I was saying this is a very reliable and dependable car. As far as shipping of the car, well, I feel like it is the buyers responsibility but I do ask a $500 deposit 24 hours after the closing of the bidding and I would like the balance paid in full within pickup of the vehicle and title transfer within 7 days. Exceptions can be made on the pickup but not the deposit. I am a nice guy willing to work with the winning bidder to get your car shippped where it needs goes. If there is any question please dont hesitate to call me my cell number is 254-XXX-XXXX. PLEASE ONLY SERIOUS BIDDERS. I am listing this car locally and do have the option to end the auction at any time.********************************************************************************************** Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE On Dec-12-12 at 20:33:09 PST, seller added the following information: last minute revision: I purchased a new cupholder for the driver side some time ago and it's included. The Pioneer radio isn't included. I forgot about that. Sorry. I think I gave it to a friend who was helping me with the restoration project back in '07. Please feel free to cancel your bid if you have placed one and the radio was important to you.
