Vehicle Detail

1946 Willys Jeep CJ-2A This 1946 Willys CJ-2A jeep is in almost stock condition. It does have some additions that are not original, but it does have what appears to be the original engine and drive train. This ole jeep runs right along at a whopping 45 mph top speed and can go just about anywhere on trail. California title is in hand and clear. California registration is currently "planned non-operational", meaning that since the jeep is not being driven on public roads at this time, the registration is "parked", acrueing no fees per year (See this link for details: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/brochures/fast_facts/ffvr01.htm ). This vehicle is also smog test exempt in the state of California. Please see the details about this CJ-2A outlined below. Engine: This appears to be the original 134 "Go Devil" L-head flathead engine. The VIN is the engine number and it does match. There is an additional serial number plate on the passenger side firewall under the hood and that number is: CJ-2A 34238. The engine had been rebuilt a few years ago and runs nice. The carburetor was rebuilt about 3 months ago. The engine is normally grumpy and cold-natured, but once running, runs out very nicely. There are no known issues regarding the engine. NOTE: The mileage on the odometer cannot be verified. Transmission & Drive Train: The transmission is a 3-speed that shifts nicely and the clutch is in good shape. There are no howling noises from the rear end and everything seems to be in acceptable working order. The 4x4 system is fine and the hubs in good condition. Body: The body is in restorable condition, with some dings and rust holes in the following areas: passenger side inner front fender well (see pic), both front sides where the fender comes together with the body (see pix). There is a hole that someone cut into the rear floor behind the drivers seat (see pic)...why, I could not tell you. Someone also installed (as in welded) a rail around the back part of the jeep (see pix). There is also some rust on the windshield support, we will include another support with this jeep. One windshield glass pane is broken and we are including another one in this auction. The tow bar on the front needs to go, as it's way too heavy and has caused the grille panel to droop somewhat. The frame and rest of the body is solid and really just has layers of paint and undercoating peeling off, but under these layers is good metal. Suspension & Tires: Wheels and tires are obviously not stock but work well. The rims are aftermarket and the tires are very nice all-terrains with at least 85% tread left. The shocks look old and probably should be replaced. Steering is fine and the leaf springs are in good shape. Everything works as it should. Brakes are fine. Interior: The interior is clean and solid, but by no means perfect. All the gauges seem to be there and original. The rearview mirror is not stock. The seats may have come from a military jeep. The steering wheel has some cracks and is not perfect. It looks like the gas tank has been replaced with a newer galvanized one. Documentation: Clear California title in hand. California registration is currently "planned non-operational" and no fees are in arrears. Fees will be due upon transfer of title to new owner and the PNO may be transferred to the new owner as well. Out-of-state buyers need not be concerned with PNO. This vehicle is California smog test exempt. The current California license plates are included as well as the "black plate" that was issued to this jeep back in the 1960s. All in all this is a solid CJ-2A that runs, stops, drives and shifts fine and is a real piece of automotive history. It is located in Aguanga, California, approximately 2 hours south of Los Angeles and 1 1/2 hours north of San Diego. Please email for an appointment to see and drive. This jeep is being offered As-Is, with no warranty implied or given. We have described this vehicle to the best of our knowledge. Delivery may be possible for a fee (California, Oregon, Arizona) via open car trailer. Please email for delivery estimates. Please examine the pix carefully. We welcome any questions you may have regarding this item. It is highly recommended that any potential buyer come and see the vehicle in person. Please email for an appointment and directions.
