1973 XJ12 series 1 Up for sale is my beautiful first year XJ12. It is an original west coast car and resides in sunny Southern California. Interior has a nice patina and the leather is in great original shape. The head rests need to be refilled but the leather for it is soft. This is a short wheel base car and has the same wheel base as the XJ12C. The car motors excellent and is a true freeway flier. The car has 68k original miles. It is rare to find a original series 1, especially a short wheel base V12. All the numbers match and the car is in excellent shape for being an un-restored classic. less than 3% of the series 1 cars with chrome bumpers were V12 short wheel bases making this car very rare. Only 168 produced for the first year run. Most of these cars according to XJData have been lost, damaged, or salvaged, making this a true collector piece. Only 20 - 30 cars are survivors today. The color combination of Green Sand with Tan leather interior was also uncommon. The car has never been wrecked and the paint is original and presentable, with having a few areas that were touched up form detailers in the past. A re-spray would be good however a lot of collectors these days want as much of the car original as possible. The Chrome is all there and through the years of detailing is showing minor sign of wear, but I left in it's original condition to sustain providence as it is also a advantage to leave the patina. There is a scratch in the hood that will need some touching up, as well as a few minor paint flakes from surface rust from some rock nicks that penetrated to the metal. The car otherwise is rust free. The car was purchased from the second owner and it has less than 200 miles since a tune up, ignition replacement, and all of the carbs rebuilt. Both fuel pumps were recently replaced and there was some recent a/c work completed. The tires are newer period correct white stripe radials. This was the car to have if you were the upcoming executive, and with today's need to be different having a classic V12 monster muscle car of the 70's is the cultural imperative. A complete generation has passed since this car was introduced. It was the only V12 sedan revolutionary for its time, and its top cruising speed on pump gas was 140 miles per hour.... all day long. This car is loaded - power steering, power windows, power brakes, automatic, independent 4 wheel suspension, inboard rear disc brakes, twin fuel tanks, and multiple piston front wheel disc brakes. This chassis won all the awards for being the smoothest and quietest riding car, comparative to the Rolls Royce's at a fraction of the cost. Today's Jaguars incomparable ride started with the invent of this car. At the press release for this car quote - "The car as presented at that time was the world's only mass-produced 12-cylinder four-door car, and, with a top speed "around 140 mph" (225 km/h) as the "fastest full four-seater available in the world today". Makers such as Mercedes, Rolls Royce, Bentley, Audi, and Aston martin copied the v12 stance for their cars after Jaguar had perfected the smooth ride. The wiper motor needs to be reworked otherwise everything works on the car. This car is offered at a modest reserve and will be a great investment for the first time buyer as well as the seasoned jag club member. A numbers matching, classic jaguar that runs great.
