Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is this 1972 Baja Bronco in an unrestored condition. This truck led the lucky life of a Baja Bronco that dodged the normal life events including lift kits, and motor swaps to appear here in an unmodified, but used condition. So many times a Bronco gets changed or rusted - but here's your opportunity to get a clean, solid, unmodified Baja Bronco that you can restore, or enjoy as is after minor work. According to the Marti Report, this Bronco was "converted by Stroppe with the Baja Bronco Conversion Package" sometime after it's build date of March 21, 1972. It is one of 80 1972 Broncos slated by Ford for conversion to a Baja Bronco, and one of less than 33 known to still exist on the Baja Bronco Registry at BajaBronco dot com. This particular Baja has the following items on it beyond Ford's requisite 4.11 limited slip gears, HD springs, extra cooling package, and special paint: rear flares, 3speed floor shifter kit (same tunnel cover as pictured in Stroppe's catalog), Stroppe hitch, foam padded rollbar, 15x8 white painted steel rims, dual front shocks, and trimmed front fender leading edge. Not all Bajas got every part in the catalog and each one seems to be pretty unique with it's set of options. What makes this one further unique is that it was sold by Fairway Ford originally. Dick Landfield, owner of Fairway Ford, is a desert racer and has been since the start. Stroppe used Fairway as a go-to dealer both for stocking them with Bajas, and also if he needed a Bronco or truck to use for a racer. With it's close relationship to Stroppe, it appears that Fairway probably ordered this Bronco for a customer and equipped it to their exact specs. The Bronco still has Fairway Ford license frame! Over the years, maintenance has been done to the Bronco including new front suspension bushings at the radius arms. It also looks like the engine has had a bit of work to it as it is clean (owner and I have not cleaned it up), and has mostly Lawson Tuff-Torque bolts - indicatiing someone re-did gaskets and possibly more work. We aren't sure and dont have any records from the last owner regarding repairs. It runs well, but like any older unrestored car, a tune up is recommended. One mechanical improvement recently was the addition of a new clutch in the last 50 miles. It has a LuK brand diaphram clutch, and resurfaced flywheel. The 3speed was fully rebuilt at that time too and shifts nicely and smoothly. No excessive driveline vibration, but does have a bit of brake noise coming from the drums. They have been adjusted and stop straight under normal driving conditions, but they are manual drum brakes and require quite a bit of pedal effort. I would recommend doing a brake job before driving it regularly. All the gauges work as do signals and lights. The mileage reads 60689 at the time of this auction - we don't know if it's 160689 or 60689, and neither do you. Believe whatever you want, but we do not claim the mileage is 60689 original miles. The body is all original with exception of the right hand front fender. The hood has a small dent in the leading edge of it a little to the right, but other than that the Bronco appears to be and have been collision free. The only rust we can find is some surface rust in the floors and maybe a bit of perforation there, but very minor if it is. There is some rust bunching in the engine compartment corners which is so common on these Broncos - however it's pretty easily repairable. One other spot I saw some small signs of rust on was the inside rear quarter panel on the passenger side. There appears to be some small bubbling on that interior ledge. From the outside and underside there appear to be no signs of rust. Rockers inner and outer are solid, kickpanels, and door posts solid. See pictures - I took them all inside and out and under. If you see something you want a closer look at or a spot I missed feel free to call or email me. Baja Broncos are few and far between and are arguably the most collectible early model Ford Bronco. This one isn't a basket case, or a rebuilt wreck, but an original survivor that is ready to restore. I know of only a couple more on the market and they are incomplete and far worse of than this truck - why bother when you have a chance at a Baja like this. Buyer is to pay shipping, but I can be available to hand the truck over to your shipper. Also have a recommended shipper if so desired. Here are all the pictures in HI-res for your review:
