Vehicle Detail

1953 Austin Champ 4X4. This is the hit of the prom. What a cool little toy. When was the last time you saw one? Yep, just as I thought, never. This is the English answer to the Army Willys. Manufactured by Austin from 1952 thru 1956. Total production for four years is reported to be 11,000 units. Out of those, only 1,000 are said to be left. Out of that number, only 300 are reported to be in running condition. This is one of them. Now,with that in mind, this is a running restoration project. To the specifics: Powered by a gasoline Rolls Royce 4 cylinder. Shifted through a 5 speed manual transmission. No power steering, no power brakes. All of the lights have been converted over to 12 volt. Has headlights, tail lights and brake lights on 12 volt now. Keeping the rest of the rig original to the 24 volt system. No top, no windshield. Does still have the original machine gun mount. Mileage is exempt due to the age, but Ebay requires a number in the blank. In the process of switching to a 25 gallon marine gas tank. Two new 12 volt batteries. Now for the fun. Yes it has 5 forward gears, a reverse, and 5 reverse gears. Yes Nadine, that is 5, FIVE speeds backwards. All shifted through a transfer case, similar to a garden tractor. Push down for forward gears, one click up for neutral and one more click up for reverse. Way, way cool. Oh, and , right hand drive. Just a monster on the cruise scene. Please consider this unit for your winter project and then expect the oohs and ahs next spring. As with all my sale, this is an as is- where is auction. You bid-you own. Shipping is available for any of the shippers on ebay. Use zip code 46033 as a reference point. Doc is standing by to answer all your questions. Want it now, can't wait? Lets talk. Good luck Enjoy the shot of the 1954 Willys, soon to be on the block. On Oct-05-12 at 13:30:18 PDT, seller added the following information: I have just been informed that the engine in the Champ is a Rolls Royce "designed" powerplant that was manufactured by Austin. I can't confirm nor deny this claim. Any help out there?
