1964 VW DUNE BUGGY As pictured, very sharp 1964 VW Dune Buggy. This dune buggy is built on a full size VW chassis giving you a better ride and more room. Very good runner. This baby is quick! Running gear is a 1972 VW 1600cc engine and a 4 speed manual transmission. Nice solid ride. Has working horn, headlights, blinkers, tail lights, stop lights, dash lights, stereo, adjustable seats and manual windshield wiper. Nice wide side view mirrors. Stereo has speakers on rear deck, sounds very good with AM/FM and weather band! Body is very nice. Interior looks sharp and it's built on a full size chassis so getting in and out is easy. New wiring, hardware, tires are older but still excellent. Temp gauge not connected. I don't know if it's street legal in your area, but I don't have any trouble driving it here. Elkhorn is about 45 minutes SW of Milwaukee, 75 minutes South of Madison and 90 minutes North of Chicago.On Oct-02-12 at 07:00:35 PDT, seller added the following information: OK, since it's the final day of the auction , let me address some of the questions I've received and provide any additional info that might be helpful to bidders. The engine does not smoke or burn oil. It does not pop out of gear while driving. The clutch seems very good. It steers straight. It's being sold because it has not really been used much the last 10 years. The brakes are a little soft and pull slightly to the left on a hard stop. I keep the battery on a trickle charger due to limited vehicle use and the battery is older and not quite a strong as a new one. Yes, you can add a back seat to this buggy, but I do not have one. The emergency brake is not connected. I have an inspection report available, if you'd like to see it, drop me your email. The body does not have spider cracks. The windshield is lexan. The floor pans have been patched. The blinkers work on a toggle switch. Based on the year of the chassis, tires and rims, I would guess this was originally built in the mid-to late 1970's. The battery and the gas tank are in the rear. OK, I think I covered all the questions in no particular order. It's not too late to inspect the buggy or have it inspected.
