Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 1968 Ford Mustang Coupe. I bought this car recently with the thoughts of having a driving project car. My wife has since talked some since into me and reminded me that with a full time job and two kids there is not enough time to be working on projects. For that reason I am putting it up for sale. I will go through everything and let you know what I know about the car both good and bad. Body: This is what attracted me to the car in the first place. It is 99.9% rust free with only one small spot on the the bottom of the driver door shown in the picture. The body is overall in fair to good shape with only minor dings. I cannont find any signs of prior accidents on the car anywhere. The car was repainted at some point but they did not do a great job. It is chipping in a few spots. My plan was to repaint the whole car but it is certainly useable the way that it stands. The whole underside of the car has been coated. I am not sure if this was done from the factory or done later in life. There is no rust underneath the car. There is no rust in the usual spots. The floor pans, wheel lips, trunk, and lower quarters are all rust free. If you want the body to look good the only thing that really would need to be done is the repair of the one little rust spot and paint. Drivetrain: The car runs and drive very good. It has a 302 and automatic transmission out of a 1987 Mercury Grand Marquis. The engine has a 2 barrel carburetor on it that is a stock Ford carb. The engine is all stock with no odd noises or sounds. It could use a tune up as it has sat for a while but it does not affect the drivability of the car, you can just feel a little stutter when giving it heavy gas. It has brand new dual exhaust on the car from the exhaust manifold back to the chrome tips. The transmission shifts in all gears fine with no slipping or hard shifts. It has front disc brakes that are power brakes and power sterring. This was a conversion done by the previous owner. This makes the car much easier to drive, especially in traffic. When I bought the car the brakes worked but the pedal went almost to the floor. I put a brand new master cylinder and power brake booster on it. I did not bench bleeed the the master cylinder, stupid mistake by me, before installing it so it now has air in the system. I have bleed the brakes but it still has air in the system which is basically causing it to have little to no brakes. For this reason you will need to tow the car or have someone help you bleed the brakes. Overall the car runs really well and will run on regular 87 octane because it is stock. The oil pressure is steady around 25 lbs and the water temp is around 195 degrees. Interior: The overall interior is in pretty good condition. It has front bucket seats out of a 1967 Mercury with headrest. They were recently recovered but the backs needs the material glued back on. It also has shoulder strap seat belts for the front two seats which were added by the previous owner. The carpet is not torn up but it is sunfaded. You can replace it for about $122 off of Ebay. The dash is in fair to good shape with no cracks in it but needs to be secured a little better. The rear deck section where the speakers are needs to be recovered. This is very common on these cars as the sun tends to destroy the material in this area. The door panels are in pretty good condition as well. The two front windows roll up and down fine but the two rear windows are off track. All in all the interior would not take much to make it look really nice. Electrical: The car has no electrical issues. The origianl gauges are in the car but the coolant, oil pressure, and voltage gauge are not hooked up. There are seperate gauges for these underneath the radio. It has a CD Player in the car. The CD poriton works fine but I do not think there is an antenna hook up because the stations do not play too well. I believe the car had A/C originally but it was removed. The vents are still there but there is no under the hood components. Overall this car will make someone a nice driving project. I drove the car over an hour after buying it with no problems. Just remeber you will have to tow it right now or have someone help get the air out of the system. If you have the time and are willing to put a little money into it you will have a nice $10,000 to $12,000 car. I am selling the car at No Reserve so my loss is your gain. I am also willing to trade it for other vehciles. If you are interested in trading let me know what you have. I do have it for sale locally so if it does sell I will end the auction. If you are interested in buying now or trading you can contact me. If you have any question please feel free to email me or call me at 864-838-2158. The car is located in Simpsonville which is just outside of Greenville SC. It is about 1.5 hours south of Charlotte and 2.5 hours north of Atlanta. On Sep-25-12 at 16:19:52 PDT, seller added the following information: BRAKES ARE NOW FIXED. IT TURNS OUT THE NEW MASTER CYLINDER THAT I HAD INSTALLED WAS DEFECTIVE. I HAVE REPLACED IT WITH ANOTHER NEW ONE AND NOW THE BRAKES WORK FINE. THE CAR CAN BE DRIVEN NOW WITH NO PROBLEMS.
