Vehicle Detail

Up for sale is my 1971 Mercury Cougar XR7 Convertible that is a very solid car, but it needs restoring. I purchased the car 6 years ago with the hopes of restoring it, but I simply do not have the time to do so. It's a very solid Southern Kentucky car with minimal rust and is considered a good candidate for a restoration. It's had a very amateur paint job years ago and it's considered a "30 footer". It has scratches in the paint and a couple of chipped areas (see photos). The seats were recovered and look fair. WHAT DOES NOT WORK OR IS MISSING: Most of the gauges including the speedometer do not work. The turn signals, Windshield Wipers and Map Light do not work. It's missing the Radio and it will need interior door panels and carpet. The console is in the trunk and I do not know if it can be used or not. WHAT DOES WORK: The Power top and the mechanicals work. The White top and the Clear plastic window were replaced 8 years ago and are in very good condition (top could use a shampooing). The front and rear seats were recovered in White Vinyl (fair-good job) 8 years ago. The Power Steering & Power Brakes (Front discs, Rear drum) work very well. The car starts right up and drives although I WOULD NOT suggest driving it because I have not driven it on the street, only up and down our long driveway. It has the very durable 351 Windsor 2V Engine and the FMX Automatic Transmission which seems to shift fine. The Tires have 90% tread remaining. The front floor pans have been replaced which was a common problem on Cougars and Mustangs of that era. The torque boxes and subframe are excellent. It has a clear title. This Cougar will make a great resto. project or if you are not wanting to go to that extreme and just want an economical amateur cruise night vehicle, simply freshen it up, tune it up, possibly rebuild the carb, then drive it and enjoy. We go to many cruise nights and it amazes me there are no Cougars, especially a '71 XR7 Convertible. The previous owner said he drove it to cruise nights. If you have any questions, please call my Cell #630-267-4335 (Marty) and leave a message if I do not answer. I will return your call as soon as I can.
