Vehicle Detail
Selling a 1938 Ford Standard with a 85 H.P. V8 and a three speed manual transmission. This car has been in our family since 1963? It has been stored inside ever since, usually driven some each summer. I’ll do my best on the description; ask questions if I miss anything. The frame and undercarriage looks good, light surface rust only, solid frame. The exterior looks really nice, nice shiny black paint except the two rear quarters, they are a dull black with some dents and dings, and they need body work and paint but are not rusty. The driver’s window is cracked and has been since the 1970s. The original rubber mats on the running boards are dry rotted and need replaced. There’s a dent and some missing paint on the passenger side of the trunk, you can see it in my pictures, the bottom edge of the trunk lid has some rust. The passenger front fender has been replaced with a new old stock steel fender. It was hit about 15 years ago, we had to replace the fender, straighten and rechrome the front bumper, and had part of the hood side straightened and repainted. The weather stripping around the doors and trunk is rotted and needs replaced. The interior looks real good, all the original carpet is gone though, headliner, seats and door panels look really ,no rips , a little wear on the driver’s seat can be seen in my pictures. On the dash I see a few missing knobs, a cracked lens on the speedometer. The gas gauge doesn’t seem to be working this year and the speedometer cable broke two summers ago reads 38000 original miles approximately. Windshield wiper doesn’t work but we didn’t drive it in the rain anyway. It had some water leaking around the crank out windshield when I washed it. We put a little duct tape on the floor around the shifter and pedals to keep mice out during storage. It starts runs and drives but needs a tune up, the clutch is a little grabby, and I wouldn’t go too fast on those 1960s tires. We had it running 40 mph on a 30 mile trip last weekend, but it made me a little nervous. Okay I’ve tried to point out all the problems I see, but lets get real, what a nice, solid, original, steel 1938.You won’t find many this solid, it has tons of potential for a hot rod or a nice original restoration. I’m Located in S.E. Iowa about 8 miles off Interstate 80. Buyer pays cash on receipt, we have the title. Title is clear unless that wreck it had 15 years ago makes it salvage?
