Great Condition 1979 Subaru GL Wagon 4WD, 4 Speed, 119k NO RESERVE!! 100% Feedback over 12 years on Ebay. Bid with confidence. Hate to part with this, but it's time, I need the space. Feel free to email me or phone me (541 747 6362) if you have questions. It's a unique little car, not many like it around for sale, so hard to know what it's worth. I purchased this car in '98, and have driven it sparingly. It became a bit small to take two adults & two kids on trips, so we purchased a Toyota van. I've kept it as my backup car and out of sentimentality. For the past several years I've started it regularly and driven in for a week or so in the summer. I dusted it off, had the kids wax it and have been driving it regularly for the past month. Only issue was a weeping water pump and I replaced that ~3 weeks ago. I think it's dependable and unique and fun, it needs a personality to match - Plaid seats and two toned stripes are hard to come by! The car drives and handles like a state of the art 1979 machine, e.g no power steering. Subaru made their reputation on this version of their car. EA71 1600cc motor - was rated to get 25mpg. Was one of the first small cars with four wheel drive, and it was great on the backroads when we did canoeing/camping trips with it. When I purchased it, there were receipts in the glove box for just having had the front axles and boots replaced, they look in good condition. The clutch will still stall the motor when let out with the parking brake engaged (meaning the clutch is not worn out yet - My first one of these cars went over 180k on one clutch and then was wrecked.) I'm not a car salesman, and realize the online mode leaves a bit to be desired, so will try to list the issues. Better selling points to list all the positives I'm sure, but just being honest, will try to address all the points with pictures as well. If you're local, you're welcome to come by and kick the tires. Engine: I think the biggest issue is the exhaust. It is intact, but as it came to me the front Y pipe was a combination of two clamped together, and the mid muffler has always had an odd crack on the side. You can listen to it on the video, I've driven it in this condition for its entire time with me and just never found it terrible enough to get it redone. Rear muffler seems fine. It's running well, the cold auto idle takes a few seconds to kick in on cold mornings, but It has been a while since it's had a full tune up. Have to find some one who still knows about carbureted cars. Body - There are a few minor rust patches. The undercarriage looks to be completely rust free (Car has been in Oregon for its entire life - no salt on the roads) but the right front quarter panel has minor rust near the hood. There is also a small dent under the rear bumper flap that shows some minor rust. Paint was a metallic brown, the clear coat is showing its age, the rear and right sides are excellent yet. Original stripes are in excellent shape. Cool. Interior is in great shape save the small tear in the drivers seat, and the one rear plastic wheel well cover. Driver's side original carpet is somewhat worn, but has had another carpet in place while I've owned it. Fog light wire is not connected (wires under the dash) AC (yes this car had Air Conditioning!) still functioning, but not very cold. Clock not working, radio is. Could use new wiper blades - hasn't been driven in the rain for a while. Good points... "HOW TO KEEP YOUR SUBARU ALIVE" book included. Registration valid in Oregon for another year Original Owners manual and sales slip. Four wheel drive, shift on the fly. Rear spoiler keeps dust off the windows on the backroads. Tires with very low miles on them. Luggage rack. Real rain gutters, easy to attach a (Thule/Yakima) roof rack, I'll even include one if the price is over 2k! Spare studded tires included. Plaid seats and cool stripes. I'm sure I've missed something, please ask. If you want other pictures let me know. Will also post a video if the engine running. The car is for sale locally, and I reserve the right to pull the listing if sold. I have zero experience shipping cars, but will be willing to work with you if you can find reasonably local arrangements. My neighbor actually has a tow dolly for sale at the moment, and September is the best time of year to visit Oregon! I'd like to have the car gone asap, but a couple weeks until pickup is ok. $100 non refundable deposit due within 24hrs of auction close. Hopefully we'll both have a good ebay car experience - my first. The reserve is only set at $1500, I'm hoping for significantly more, but personally really don't like auctions with reserve prices, so it's low to entice someone. Have fun. Don't miss out - bid now so you don't have to watch for those last second snipers. Please e-mail me with any questions. Stuff: Winner to respond via Email within 24 hours after end of auction and pay $100 non refundable deposit within 48 hours. Payment in full via cash or certified funds within 2-3 weeks. Thanks for looking and Good Luck! Trader*rick is just me, not Amazon. I try to rember those past years when you could actually trust descriptions and purchasers on ebay. Feel free to email me with questions, I'm not here to make a mint or rip anyone off. Best side Worst side Rear Paint Great One original rear mudflap remains Dimple under rear bumper flap Worst rust spot on the car Interior Passenger, nice shape - (tear on driver's seat). Passenger seat. rear interior seats excellent Trunk carpet intact, few marks, and cracke plastic wheel well. Driver's seat (tear is by door post, visible from the passenger side photo) Orginal carpet intact, but worn Instrument cluster, Tachometer works 120mph wooohooo. Dash, 70s plastic wood grain. Under the hood. Right side Left side Doors Doors Headliner excellent condition Love those stripes. Original Docs (how to keep your subaru alive book not pictured) Original InvoiceOn Sep-09-12 at 19:10:57 PDT, seller added the following information: Video of a cold start up is here , high idle until it warms up, walked to the back so you can get the sound of the car, and revved it near at the end. 6mb wmv file. On Sep-14-12 at 00:50:35 PDT, seller added the following information: Trying to get to some of the FAQs... Sorry long day, too many kids volunteering events today. Minor heater issue: Someone asked about the heater.. it was 90 deg here today, but... didn't seem to function, then I remembered last winter flipping the lever in haste and hearing it pop... so looked down at the valve an it was not moving. Moved it by hand and head started pouring out the defrost.. So, the heater core is NOT plugged, but you'll have to do some cable sleuthing under the dash to hook up the temperature control, or use long arms to do it manually ;) Also the fan speed control only seems to work in high gear - these are usually resistor wires hidden in the duct work, I had a spare at one point, didn't see it on the shelf, and I might be remembering my first soob. I couldn't feel the cable attached to the heater valve, circled the valve and cable in the pic below that I borrowed off the web. Nothing major, another quirk to deal with, sorry I hadn't noticed before, and this is as much editing as ebay allows me to do to the add. Tires, included a few closeup pics, they are several years old, don't see much in the way of weathering, but kids cleaned out the paperwork/glove box, and I wasn't as diligent as I should have been. Hope you can see what you need to in the pics. Undercarriage. Hard to imagine for you east coast folks, but yeah, it's solid, not rotted out. Ask me about my 78 PA version of this...floorboards were made of carpet. You can also see the Y pipe muffler clamp. Hard to take pics underneath, hope you can see what you need. The original pictures were taken a day after the kids cleaned the car, it was not wet, but I think the pics look better than the actual paint job. Maybe it's just the dust in the valley this time of year, or that' I'm only looking at the drivers side these days as I've been using it... All bad points, but heck driving it around this evening sure was fun, hit 70 on the freeway no worries, passed a new kia something or other going up the 30th street hill... Doesn't really pull in either direction. Original Radio antenna is intact, Found some Yakima racks for it if you want. Making me think I should keep it for another 20 years. Been fun hearing everyone's stories etc, sorry if I haven't answered all the emails/calls directly. Heater box from elsewhere Front outer tire edge, most worn I could find. Mold sprues still visible Rear tire Floor board Undercarraige right side Left side On Sep-14-12 at 11:53:53 PDT, seller added the following information: Smoking. Don't think the car has ever belonged to a smoker. Ash tray is dusty, but no ashes, and the lighter still looks like it hasn't been used...
