This beautiful 740 is one of the nicest older Volvo's we have seen in a long time. The black/grey color combination really gives it a bold, classic look. There are a few blemishes in the paint, but for the most part the exterior looks really good, especially for the age. Even better, this wagon has been here in Greensboro, NC since it was new and therefore has no rust. The interior is eqully good if not better with no cracks in the dash, decent carpets, original mats, very good door panels (with no shrinkage) and seats that have already been refurbished. We purchased the vehicle from the owner of the last 17 years and saw the garage it stayed in. Being garage kept makes a HUGE difference to a Volvo, especially with regards to the interior as they just don't hold up in the sun and the heat of the South. Mechanically, the car was so close to being perfect, we threw caution to the wind and approved all of the service our Volvo tech recomended. The timing belt was replaced at 158k, the tires are new. We can supply a detailed report on the service history. 1992 is the last year for the 740 before it became the 940. There is virtually no difference in appearance. This example is well equipped and nearly the top model with the 2.3 turbo engine, alloy wheels, sunroof, heated leather seats, third row etc. Volvos of this age are of course safe, but also long lasting dependable cars that get reasonable fuel mileage.
