Vehicle Detail

1948 FORD SUPER DELUXE 2-DR COUPE This 1948 Ford Super Deluxe was purchased by my father as a retirement restoration project approximately 6 years ago. Unfortunately dad passed away before he had the opportunity to restore it. Dad worked for an automobile supplier, and drove the car home after purchasing it. The car has been stored on car dollys inside our barn at the farm since then. Neither me nor my brother have the ability to restore the car so it's being sold without reserve to the highest bidder. I will do my best to describe the car as accurately as I can but I'm not an auto expert. Here is the little I know about the car: Extremely Confident that it will run, but needs a new battery. Has not been started in about 6 years (we may attempt to start before the auction ends) but dad drove it home then and has been under cover. No "mouse smell", barn smells (actually was stored in our tool shed), or any funky odors. Smells like an old car. Odometer reads 13,541.0 miles. No clue if it rolled over. Clean title When the car was purchased ~6 years ago, it had new tires, new brakes and a new clutch. The clutch feels excellent to me but the brakes feel like they need bled. After dad got it home he had the carburetor redone. 3-speed; V-8 Flathead Very solid body; I don't see any bondo at all but again I'm not an expert. Crank windows work; everything including hood/etc. lines up well. I believe that this car is about 80% original give or take, including all the glass. Take a look at the small details like covers for the door locks on the doors, starter switch and button, etc. Looks like somebody started an attempt to restore the car before dad got it but did a poor job. The gas tank is situated in the trunk. This is an outstanding candidate for restoration in my opinion. If it is restored, I would love to see after pictures. Anyone interested in the vehicle is welcome to come complete a full inspection. As I stated, I'm not an auto expert. The vehicle is located in Hemlock, MI. 48626 and I can be reached at Nine-Eight-Nine, 284-7733 or by email through ebay. $500 down through paypal is asked within 48 hours of auction end. Balance is preferred by certified check. Local pickup, or please call for shipping arrangements if required. A family friend came over last night and recommended a new battery, spark plugs, pointes and a condensor which we put in tonight. After putting the items in, draining the fuel and putting in new fuel, I choked the car and it started IMMEDIATELY without hesitation at all. We drove the car approximately half a mile, all 3 speeds worked well, car shifted well and runs good. Reverse works good. Put brake fluid in and the brakes immediately came back to life as well. Clutch is like new, shifting is smooth. Tires look brand new with no weather checking though they are 10 years old I believe. We noticed that after we drove it out of the shop that there was no oil on the cement...and yes, the car has oil in it. :) I have videos that I am working on getting available on YouTube or for me to email to you if you are interested of the car running and being driven. Hoping to update additional pictures tonight as well, please email if you require more. This is as great of a restoration project as I expect you'll find. - All lights work except 1 front running light (possible bulb?). Interior lights in back seat including the switch, and all dash lights work except the radio lights. Brake lights work. Blinkers did not. Light on the end of the blinker knob even works. EXTERIOR - On the exterior of the car, the paint is faded worse than it looks in the picture (it was just washed there). - Car needs windshield wipers. - Front quarter panel on passenger side has 2" carck. - Window seals are dry-rotted and need to be replaced but they are all there. - Glass appears all original but some glass has yellow staining. - Passenger side bottom of door has rust bubbles approx. 1"x3" - Rear quarter panel has 4"x4" rust bubble spots. - Driver side rear quarter panel has 3"x24" rust "bubbles". - Driver side front quarter panel has 18" of cracks. - Under the hood the horn is there but doesn't look like it's hooked up. Isn't working. Needs a battery holder and an air cleaner I believe. The rest under the hood aside from some hanging wires looks excellent in my opinion. INTERIOR - Seat supports look home made to me for front seats. - Drivers seat is ripped. - Floor panel is original, and in good shape including brake fluid reservoir inspection cover. - Ash trays are there and work, windows crank, doors open and close. - Hood is missing 1 spring. - Chrome on the inside polishes up like new. - Clock isn't working, but may not be hooked up (same with radio, fuel gauge). Lots of dangling wires. - Speedometer and Odometer are working, as is the temperature gauge and volt meter on the dash. - Cigarette lighter is there, I didn't try it to see if it's working. If ebay will allow it, I'll try to post another update if I'm able. Sad day for mom and I, the car definitely needs work, but it could roll up to the local ice-cream shop as is (aside from the gas tank being in the trunk right now). We're hoping to be able to see pictures of it after your original restoration. -JoeOn Sep-06-12 at 20:18:43 PDT, seller added the following information:***********UPDATE!!!!!************** We started the car tonight! Please see the video of the car running, email me if you need the YouTube Link sent to you. Also, oil pressure gauge is working. Brakes weren't functioning well today, possible air in the line or needs more fluid. The car is running and driving well.
