Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a VERY nice condition, 1967 Dodge Dart " Pro Touring " -type build, from Sunny and Dry California. This car started out as the quintessential "Gramma' car", complete with an original V8 drivetrain, a "powerhouse" 273cid with the A904 TorqueFlite automatic behind it. It was a daily-driven cruiser, the kind of car that you HOPE to find and start out with for your street machine buildup. It's nice to base your build on a desirable body style, no rot or cancer, straight lines, clean glass, 98% of the original trim intact (no needle-in-a-haystack searches across the country!) You car guys and gals know EXACTLY what I'm talkin' about, you've been there or know somebody who has been through the headache of buyin' a "rust-free" car and replacing 80% of the sheetmetal with ill-fitting reproduction crap. That will NOT be the case with this car. That said, here's the lowdown on this A Body. The motor does NOT come with it, I'll post a parts list of it below, in case you want to come up with the extra $$$ to include it in the final sale. As mentioned, the body is very nice, no rot or damage, just a minitub job that needs to be completed, as it's currently halfway finished. The owner lost his storage/workspace during this minor project and has no place to finish the install. The car was painted single-stage Viper Blue and looks very nice, not perfect but, draws attention and looks good in the sunlight AND at dusk. The original trim is there and shined up pretty nicely, even the hard-to-find rear taillight panel trim is present, as well as the 1967-only grill in fine shape. I've seen these grill shells go for $400+ on Ebay, very hard to come by (especially straight!) and a distinguishing feature on '67' models. I tried to get some good shots of the body areas of concern for most rust-hunters, like myself. The pic' of the trunk spare tire well shows a light flash of surface rust, NOT rot. It's the kind of flash you'd get if you washed the car one day, then three days later, opened the trunk. I feel lazy for not having rubbed it off before takin' the pictures! Aaargh! :D All the glass is present and accounted for, in good shape, no buffer marks or anything like that. The interior is also in good shape, no rotted floorboards (check out the pic's for confirmation!) or extra dash panel holes. The headliner is still up and you can see the original dome light is still in use. Notice the front buckets are those "race buckets" that I despise but, they're cheap and lightweight. The front and rear bench seats are included in the sale and will only need recovering. If bidding goes high enough by a couple hundred bucks (or if you opt to hit the "Buy-It-Now option), I'm throwin' in a pair of original Dart GT bucket seats and the matching console, they're just takin' up space in my shop and would be a "sportier" addition to this car. The dash takes a pretty nice picture and will include a couple aftermarket gauges and one of MSD Ignition's excellent 6-series CD ignition boxes hidden in the glovebox. Check out the pic' of the dash, notice that the original radio location is UNCUT! Pretty amazing for a driven, 45yr. old car to make it through the '70's AND '80's without a "bitchin' stereo" install done at some point in time. Ha! Underneath the car features an aftermarket 8 3/4" Mopar rearend housing with 3.91 gears in the desireable '741 differential. The assembly also features strong Dutchman Axles, far stronger than the stock Mopar stuff. The rear suspension is still NEW IN THE BOX and features John Calvert Racing components, including his state-of-the-art CalTracs rear traction bars, unique "split mono" leaf springs and calibrated shocks. This setup is the preferred method of hooking huge power at the dragstrip but, John laughed when I asked him if it would also work for a road course, Pro Touring type car. He said he's got probably 150+ customers that thrash their cars at track days across the country and throughout the world, all of 'em using Calvert Racing suspension. One guy has a Bonneville Land Speed Racing car that runs 180+MPH with no issues. Safe to say you're gettin' the last rear suspension you'll need for this ProTouring Dart! The car also comes with a NEW IN THE BOX rollbar, legal for 10.00 E.T.s at the dragstrip but, also a huge help in making the car firm and flex-free when burning through apexes on the road course. This is the regular ol' Mild Steel version from Chris Alston's Chassisworks, Inc. down in Sacramento, CA and isn't even surface-rusted yet. Usually I see cars that come with a "new" rollbar and it's almost rusted to the point of bein' pitted (and therefore useless and NOT track legal!) The transmission is one of Mopar's tough A 727 TorqueFlyte automatics, very strong and in good shape, shifts nice and firm. This will include the 2800RPM stall converter also, with the matching flexplate. The shifter is a nice Hurst Quarter Stick for Torque Flite A727, worked like a charm and lists in Summit Racing Equipment for $182.95! Sheesh. Remember, this was a running, driving car so, all these little things have already been in use. No hunting for driveability problems or workin' the bugs out. The car will also ship with a pair of Dynomax 1 5/8" headers in good shape, just the normal Hi-Temp Black finish. This Dodge Dart also comes with a set of 18" "FR500" wheels on wide, low-profile Sumitomo street tires, you usually see these on newer Mustangs but they work pretty damn well on this body style Mopar A-Body. They end up lookin' very "tough", not all "pretty" like I see so many cars built nowadays, I can't stand that. The fronts tuck nicely and the rears will fit very well too, after the minitub job is completed. I don't think I've seen another 1967, 1968 or 1969 Dart with a stance and wheels like this yet, pretty good lookin' with the Black wheels against the striking Viper Blue paint. ENGINE: *stock-type rebuild on the shortblock, hypereutectic pistons, this was $1,395 after all was said and done *Comp Cams Hi-Lift series 275HL hydraulic flat tappet cam, $181.95 (this grind is often preferred over the popular XE274H Extreme Energy series) *Edelbrock # 60779 Performer RPM heads, these are $1,449.90 in Summit Racing Equipment TODAY *Elderbrock # 7176 Performer RPM intake, $244.95 also in Summit's catalog *Holley # 4776 650cfm 4150-series Double Pumper carb' *Canton (?) fabricated aluminum valve covers for 318-360 Mopar, these were $209.95 *Hooker 1 3/4" Super Comp series headers for SB Mopar into A-Body cars ---- Motor makes appx. 420hp and 430lb-ft, excellent power and ran in the low-12's @ 108MPH in its only trip to the dragstrip, at a 3300lbs. raceweight If you win the auction and can't live without this engine, add another $4200 and it'll go with the car. I've shipped cars before and cost to have one picked up and shipped to PA was $1080, cost to ship to IL was $890, cost to ship to TX was $700. Shipping is of course up to the winning bidder but, I've got plenty of hands to help with loading, after you do the telephone/setup legwork. No problem. Car is located in Live Oak, CA, zip code is 95953, excellent pavement to load it up too.
