This is a beautiful example of the 1970 Mercedes Benz 280 SL roadster. This is a European specification vehicle as notated by the headlights, third seat, and odometer (KM). The odometer currently reads 100,583 Kilometers (62,499 Miles). An older restoration that has been in climate controlled storage for the past five years has held up nicely. The paint and body are in great shape, with only small and infrequent areas of wear - see photos - and does feature the original headlight "notches". The hard top has no damage whatsoever and is original to the car. The soft top fabric is in good shape - no wear or tears - and the rear "glass" is clean and clear. Similarly the interior is original and has held up very nicely - with no major signs of wear. As noted earlier, this car does have the third seat in the back, known as the "Kinder" seat. Mechanically, this car is again in great shape. It has recently had the battery replaced and receieved a new Injector pump, spark plugs and wires. Additionally, all fluids have been changed to ensure this vehicle is ready for driving. Power from the 2.8 L I6 is routed through a manual 4 speed gear box to the rear tires. The tires feature the original ridge, designed to protect the hubcaps from a high curb, and are in good shape. The spare tire, jack, tools and hard top removal keys (with rare pouch) are all included and original to this vehicle. All data matches on this vehicle - please see photos of the paint/body data plate to see that the hood, boot lid and hard top all match. The "629" on the data plate indicated that this vehicle was delivered originally to a customer in France. "181" on the data plate indicated the "Light Beige" - supplied by Herberts. Also, indicated by the "5" after the paint code, this vehicle was delivered without a softtop (it has one now) and with the hard top mounted.
