Vehicle Detail
Where to start with this little girl....... Dad and I picked this diamond in the rough up in June of 2003. At first it didn't look like much of a hard case...... Whoaaaaaa were we in for a ride. We had just come off 2 restoration projects, a 1970 BGT and a 1960/61 MGA. Sold both of our little beauties to get " Elsie". Elsie, as pretty as she was, needed a complete restoration. We didn't realize how much trouble we were in. On the outside, Elsie looked like an easy project........ Then we started taking her apart. She fell apart, for the most part. By July of '03 she was stripped down to the bare frame. For the next 5 years Elsies' frame, engine and transmission had gone through a complete rebirth. The frame was sand blasted then powder coated. A nice trailer hitch was wielded on. The engine and transmission was in pieces for awhile( don't worry, it works great now) painted and every damned nut and bolt REPLACED! In April of '08...... She got her heart beating again. Had a hard time with the carbs for awhile but finally, after a trip to Ohio for another overhaul, got fixed! October of '08 started the body....... Dear god!!! Not sure what the little bastards building these things 60 years ago were drinking but it was a lot I'm sure. We ended up getting a different tub. This was a learning process for both dad and myself. Bodywork, wiring harness and other pain in the ass fixtures were painstakingly done over the next few years. Interior was somewhat easy....... That's what I'm sticking to. My father may say otherwise. This part of the car only took a few months. The first test drive around the block was in November '09. Went well considering half the car was missing. Finally finished painting the fenders and bonnet in October '10. These did take awhile...... Sorry pop! Final pieces were installed November '11........ This is a wonderful little car and were sorry to see it go. This is our 3rd and final MG. off to bigger But not necessarily better projects..... Good luck and happy bidding. Good luck!!! I've lowered the listing price.
