Running 351 Windsor V8 with headers, Edelbrock Carb, Aluminum manifold - no smoke sounds healthy - needs tuning and carb rebuild - has been sitting for years. Fires immediately with electric fuel pump on. Good C6 automatic transmission - shifts firm - seems to have high stall and reverse valve body. 9 INCH rearend !!!!! with locking diff or spool. Genuine Weld Racing Wheels - Nice shape Great for budget street brawler, bracket or weekend warrior, Nascar Tribute (yes, these fastbacks were ran at Nascar!) or restore! Trades considered. The Tag decodes as follows: 6=Model Year 1966. A= Atlanta GA Assembly Plant. 40=Body Code Fairlane 2-Door Fastback. S=390 4V GT-V8 (335HP @4800RPM 427FtLb @3200RPM 10.5-1CR). 150916=CUN (Consequitive Unit Number) The 50,916th Ford Car scheduled to be built at the Atlanta Assembly Plant during the 1966 model year (Job 1 was 100001). Body 63D=500XL V-8 Series 2-Door GT Hardtop. Color R=Dark Ivy Green Metallic. Trim 88= Light Ivy Gold Vinyl/Ivy Gold Rosette Vinyl. Date 07M=Build Date December 7. D.S.O. 31=Cincinnatti OH District Sales Office (Car had 1966 Ohio Plate). Axle 4=3.25 to 1 ratio. Trans 4=Cruise-o-matic Automatic Transmission (C6). The matching "Warranty Number" is also stamped on the radiator support. True mileage unknown. Pontiac surprised the car-buying public, and even the rest of GM when the Pontiac GTO captured the high-performance market in 1964. Everyone struggled to catch up with designs to put big engines in intermediate cars and Ford's first entry in the field was the redesigned Failane for 1966 - The GT/GTA (GT=manual trans GTA=Automatic Trans) Here is a chance to buy a verifiable musclecar, a 1966 "S" code Fairlane GTA. In 1966 the "S" code designated a 390 cubic inch powerplant - available ONLY in GT/GTA's. In 1967 GT/GTA's were available with many engines including 289's and authenticity is much harder to verify. What this means is that even without a paper trail or documentation this car is definately a bonafide big block performance musclecar! Similar to highly desireable early GTO's or SS396's where the VIN number denotes a specific performance model, here the "S" in the VIN denotes 1966 GT/GTA Big Block - when was the last time you saw a "numbers" GTO or SS396 project car for under $7500????? Details: This is a running project car. It needs work to be sure but it is AFFORDABLE. The motor fires and sounds strong with open headers. Seems to have a cam as it really wants to rev. Good transmission - seems to have a stall converter. Was told it is reverse valve body but I have only driven around the yard for the pictures. The car has no body or engine wiring harness at all. It only has temporary hot wiring for the electric fuel pump and engine ignition. Will drive onto a trailer (battery not included in sale). Brakes (all drum) work but must be pumped. 9-inch rear which is either a factory type limited slip or has a spool - original gearing was 3.25:1, not sure whats in the unit now. Car was either made into a race car or was going to be made into a race car. Has holes cut and plates added for roll cage. Has large fuel cel with foam and gauge sending unit. Car needs patch panels at front of floor/toe-boards and bottom of the cowl. Front floors were partially patched before. Rermainder of original floor and cross members are solid with only very small holes to be patched doesn't need panels. Rear wheel openings were trimmed (currently has 275/60-15 tires) and gaps filled with spray foam. Deck-lid and hood have some pinholes. Bottom of door skins and fenders have some bondo. Side and rear glass complete and in good shape. Windshield present but has one chip (Windshields can be bought, rest cannot!) May need other repairs/patches that are not immediately obvious. Fiberglass front bumper with repairable damage. You can buy fiberglass fenders, hoods, bumpers, doors and decklid which are all available from the aftermarket. Steel quarterpanels and floor patch panels are available. The front suspension is basically 67 Mustang so suspension parts and upgrades are widely available. This is a musclecar that you don't see very often but parts are available. A plastic Dash-topper is included. The car came with Teal-blue useable reproduction door panels that are still in fairly nice condition. I have a piece of decklid trim which I believe was GT/GTA only as well as the original GTA emblem (mounting pins broken). The front turn lenses and rear tail lenses are present and nice as is the glass back-up lens (67 was plastic!) Available by phone at 606-425-5387 10am-6pm Monday through Friday Will assist with loading. Battery not included but can drive onto trailer. Locally for sale. Auction can end at any time. $100 deposit due within 24 hours. Balance in cash upon pickup. On Jul-14-12 at 13:54:23 PDT, seller added the following information:Bids are very close to the reserve although my local asking price is much higher. This will make an excellent project for someone. All the basics are there: Running 351W motor, C6 trans and 9 inch rearend - all in a classic fastback 2-door factory musclecar. Easily made road worthy in a weekend or two, fix the rest as you drive! I operate a Custom Wheel and Speed Shop in my little town and I have 6 other personal project cars in front of this one - no time for this one - don't miss out!
