Vehicle Detail

1978 F250 XLT Lariat, camper special, supercab 4x4. I have owned this truck for almost 10 years. Truck was located in california until 2002, when I purchased the truck it had a valid California title. Odometer shows 08616. I believe it to be 108616 original miles. This truck was 98% rust free when I purchased it, but it had been used as a work truck and had some dents and minor damage. I am an ASE certified auto body repair man and I did all the restoration myself over a two and a half year period. I have built several 73-79 fords and this was the best truck I have ever started with and the nicest I have ever seen. I built this truck with the toughest parts Ford used on all there trucks. Truck came with front and rear Dana 60 axles from the factory with 3:50 gears. ( rare and hard to find front axle). I swapped in a granny 4-speed t18 transmission and a np205 gear driven transfer case, L&L products billet steel flywheel and heavy duty clutch. Professionally built 1970, 460 big block with edelbrock intake and carb, roller rockers, teflon coated pistons, dove-c heads. Motor should easily be turning 425+ H.P. , 2.5" heavy gauge exhaust with flowmaster drag mufflers. This truck is loud and runs very well!!! For the restoration I pulled the truck completely apart down to the frame laying on the floor. Sandblasted the frame and running gear and painted with epoxy primer and Dupont Imron 5000 gloss black. The under side of the body was in such great shape ( california truck ) , that i decided to go the extra mile and paint everything under this truck. There is no under coating or spray paint!! Underneath looks just like the top side. I replaced the bed sides and doors because of dents. The only rust on the truck was the drip rail area along the roof. this is common on supercabs and I have learned the best thing to do is completely remove the drip rails and replace with new metal. Plus the cab looks neater with them shaved off. Complete body was primed with urethane primer and blocked several times until perfectly straight. Then I painted the whole truck with Dupont Imron 6000 base coat clear coat. This paint is used on new semi trucks and is very hard, it does not chip easily. This truck has no rock chips !! I then color sanded and buffed the paint to a slick mirror finish. All of the trim was stripped of its anodizing and polished. This took me a complete month for just the trim. The interior was redone to a stock look with grey cloth and trim. The suspension is a Skyjacker 6" all spring lift, ( no blocks ) With dual steering stabilizers. Tires are Parnelli Jones dirt grips, 36x14.50 on 16.5x12 eagle alloy wheels. The truck rides and drives great for a 34 year old truck with big tires. You can cruise down the interstate at 70mph with one hand on the wheel. But it does not drive like a brand new truck......it is 34 years old, and trucks drove different back then. This truck is very dependable, I drive it to Indianapolis every year for the 4x4 nationals and its a 3 hour trip each way. It has only seen rain a couple of times when at a car show. Always garaged between October and May and has never seen snow, salt or mud since restoration. This truck has won best full size truck, at the Indy 4x4 jamboree nationals 3 times, Best ford one time and best engine compartment one time, along with countless local show trophies. And its never been on a trailer to one show, its driven!! The truck never gets hot, it has a huge radiator I bought brand new for an F600 dump truck. It won't get above 190 degrees idling for hours on a hot day. I have been stuck in Indy traffic for long periods and never a problem. This is an amazing truck and there will be no disappointments. The pictures do not due the paint on this truck justice it has a huge amount of metallic and pearl in it. But it is 34 years old and not perfect . I will list everything that I know is wrong with the truck which is pretty minor. Truck has dual tanks but I have only used the front tank. I didn't drive it enough to need both tanks. The rear is still missing the filler neck. I replaced the original rear axle with a Dana 60 with 4:10 gears for better power. I have not yet replaced the front gears to match, I unhooked the shift linkage so that it could not be put in 4x4. I have never needed 4x4 because its a show piece for me. I will award the winning bidder $750.00, at full payment for truck, if reserve price is met, to pay for the new front gears and installation. The timing is advanced for performance reasons which causes it to "diesel " sometimes when shut off if ran hard. This can be adjusted, I just chose performance. Small crack in plastic trim around glove box door. Air conditioning is complete but compressor went bad last year and I have not replaced. A/C worked well before compressor quit. I have done my best to describe this truck, but there is really to much to list. The truck can be seen in southern Indiana. I live 45min. north of Evansville and Interstate 64. If you don't have the money for this truck in your bank account please do not bid. Most banks wont loan over $5000 dollars on a 78 truck, This truck will not sell for that amount. I have placed the reserve much lower than you would ever spend to have a truck built to this caliber. Serious bidders only please!! I never drive this truck without someone asking about it or giving me the thumbs up. I know its been said a lot on Ebay, But this is one of the nicest if not the nicest 70's fords ever up for auction. It has the awards to prove it!! I can be reached at 812-582-0268 for any questions. Please only call if you are a serious bidder I require a $1000 deposit in my pay pal account within 72 hours of auction end. Remainder is to be paid within 1 week from end of auction. I will work with the winning bidder to ship truck or make other arrangements at buyers expense. Truck is for sale locally and I reserve the right to remove from auction at any time. Truck sold as is.
