Vehicle Detail

1998 BMW 323is - NO RESERVE - I am the third owner of this 1998 BMW 323is. It spent it's first 9 years as a Florida car till I purchased it off bay and had it shipped to Pennsylvania. For the past 5 years it has been my daily driver, serving all of my needs in a luxury german sports coupe. The handling of this car has always been impeccable and the strong suite of any well maintained BMW. As the suspension components would wear through the years I would have them replaced with either OEM BMW components or upgraded with M3 parts. Almost all of the bushings have been replaced with M3 bushing. The rear shock mounts have been upgraded with aftermarket ones said to be able to take a beating. These are usually weak spots on a e36 suspension. The front struts and rear shocks have been replaced with Bilstien Sport Touring shocks to improve handling while maintaining ride comfort. Two years ago, the synchronizers on the original transmission went. I had a certified used transmission shipped from California and installed along with a new clutch and clutch components. Also installed at that time was an official short shifter kit, not just a shortened selector rod. This short shifter really makes all the difference, with nice clean firm shifts in every gear. If you have ever driven one stock you'll notice the difference right away. The engine, an inline 6 cylinder, runs too strong and too fast to be the original 2.5 liter. My mechanic, after noticing the numbers on the engine didn't match his books, suggested it must be a newer 328 motor, the M52B28. Below is and excerpt from wikipedia about the two engines. M52B25 A 2.5 L (2494 cc) version introduced in 1995, with an alloy block (at least for Europe). It produces 125 kW (170 hp). Bore is 84 mm and stroke is 75 mm, as for the previous M50B25Applications: 1995-2000 E36 323i/323ti 1995-1999 E39 523i (also used in the 2001-2002 Z3 2.5i) M52B28 A 2.8 L (2793 cc) version also debuted in 1994. It has square 84 mm bore and stroke and produces 193 hp (142 kW). Applications: 1995-2000 E36 328i 1995-1999 E39 528i 1995-1999 E38 728i/728iL 1997-1999 E36/7 Z3 2.8 I mention this because that motor does not at all feel like it has 174,000 miles on it. Besides and occasional O2 sensor, the motor has never given me any issues in my 5 years of ownership what so ever. As you can see from the pictures, the black metallic paint is in excellent condition down both sided, the roof, and the rear. The hood and trunk lid and window tint are starting to fade from the sun over the years. There is also a dent in the hood on the drivers side. Close inspection reveals minor stone chips on the front. Overall the 14 year old original paint still provides a stunning appearance. The interior is dove white, dark gray and black. Everything is in great condition except for the a wear hole in the driver seat bolster. The passenger and rear seat leather are still in great condition. A brand new black leather shift boot has been installed. The aluminum shift knob with correct 5 speed pattern is 4 years old, showing some minor wear. The optional 8 speaker Harmon Kardon sound system still sounds great. The 2.5" mid range speakers have been replaced with special bmw aftermarket speakers to improve sound quality. The dual zone climate control features are all functioning. Air conditioner blows cold. The trip computer lcd screen stopped functioning; a typical e36 issue. The rims are the original 16" BBS alloy rims that came with the factory optional sport package. And in my opinion are the best looking rims for a e36 coupe besides M3 rims. (Side note; 16" lends for a perfect balance of ride comfort and superior handling performance) All four tires are high performance all season 225/50/16's. The rear tires are 225/50 ZR16 92W Continental Extreme Contact DWS (rated at 168 mph). These have been on the car for about a year with roughly 70% life left. The front tires are miss matched but do make a good pair. Driver side: Hankook Ventus V4 ES with 96V rating (149 mph) (95% tread life). Passenger side: Mastercraft Touring LSR with 92V rating (149 mph) (95% tread life, 3 months older then the Hankook) While I would love to keep this car, I already have 3. I can't keep everything so this one must go. I'm positive this BMW will make you one happy driver. This is a NO RESERVE auction. Good luck on your bidding! - OVERVIEW - Exterior: Cosmic Black Metallic Interior: Dove White (light gray) Features: Keyless Entry Alarm System Traction Control ABS Brakes Dual Zone Climat Control Fog Lights 8 Speaker Sound System 6 Disc CD Changer Sun Roof w/tilt and full open features Split Rear Fold Down Seats Full Size Spare w/jack Front & Side Curtain Air Bags Factory Sport Package including: 16" BBS Alloy Rims 5 speed Manual Transmission 8 Speaker Harmon Kardon Sound System Fog Lights New: Front and Rear Shocks (Bilstien Sport Touring) Lower Control Arms and bushings Rear Shock Mounts Brake Rotors Water Pump Shift Boot Clutch replaced two year ago along with a certified used transmission Short Shifter Kit installed Aluminum Shift knob Newer Tires with excellent tread life 174,000 miles (and going strong)
