1981 Pontiac Trans Am Coach Build Convertible with 44,000 original miles This is a very rare and unique 1981 Pontiac Trans Am that was built by a coach company as a convertible. These were made from 1978-1981, and are the closest thing to an actual factory produced convertible. I am told less than 200 were made. The convertible option was done after the car was bought from the dealer. I have attached an article from Motor Trend from 1979, that talks about these cars. There were only a few companies that produced these. NCE( National Coach Engineering) , Steas Industries, Con Tec, Elan . I don't have documentation stating one of these companies built it , but had another owner of one varify this car is a coach build. I have also attached a copy of the window sticker through Pontiac Historical Services that shows all the many options this car came with. This car is in very nice original driver condition. It has the 4.9L V8 with believed to be 44,000 original miles. It runs and drives great. I had my mechanic check out the motor and he told me it is all original with many original parts still on the motor. The car could use the fluids changed due to it sitting for some time. It does have a small oil pan leak. The body is in very nice condition with no rust. It also has had factory undercoating, so the body/ underbody looks great. The paint is all original with no repaint. The decals all seem to be all original. The paint has some scratches and has a quarter size ding on the rear passenger quarter panel, but I feel is still presentable at a cruise night. It could use a convertible top, which has a couple small holes. The top is a manual top. The interior is in very nice condition with no rips or cracks in the dash. The dash and guages look great. The original carpet does have some cuts in it. The Cruise Control , dashboard light, and Power antenna will need to be gone over, as well as the original Radio/8 Track, and air cond.. There are a couple of scratches on the plastic on each side by the rear seats. This is a very nice driver you can drive with the top down, and to cruise nights. If you want a unique Trans Am this is it. You won't find many around especially in this original condition.
