Vehicle Detail
Packard..."Ask the man who owns one" This was the slogan of Packard in the early part of the century. Packards were sought after luxury cars in the same vein as Cadillac and Lincoln. After WW2 they continued making beautiful luxury cars powered by the legendary straight eight. This car is a very nice example of an early 50s Packard convertible. It was bought new here in Atlanta and its history is known since new. This car has always been garaged and maintained. It is not a restoration per se, but a very nice survivor car or preservation class car. Let's take a closer look... Exterior ..This is a beautiful car that you would be proud to drive. The paint looks good and has a nice shine. It was painted about 20 years ago and still looks good. This is not a new concourse paint job but a very nice paint job with minor chips here and there that would occur with the passage of time. This is the only repaint over the original factory paint. This car has never been wrecked or rusted. It is practically unheard of to find a convertible from this era with its original floor pans and body panels but this one has them. This is all original Packard steel. While the idea of someone taking a rusty field car and restoring it is quite cool, a car that has always been cared for and maintained and LOVED is even better. This car has always been garaged and stored indoors. The original chrome looks decent for a driver quality car-certainly not perfect but again, a car is only original once! The top was replaced a number of years back and is in excellent condition. It is the high quality canvas material top. There is a hairline crack in the windshield and drivers window but they are still quite usable as is. Replacement windshields are easily found. The white wall tires are in excellent condition. Overall, this car is in very good cosmetic condition. Interior....This car sports the original seat covers over the original seats. Besides one quarter sized hole on the drivers side, the seats still look good. The factory paint on the dash still has a nice shine. Remember, this is an all original interior on a 60 year old car-it looks remarkably good for an interior that has never been restored. Mechanical...This wonderful straight eights runs smoooooth! The engine was rebuilt 20 years ago and still runs fantastic. Of course, like most classic cars, 20 years of time doesn't equal that many miles actually driven. The entire fuel system has been revamped. The gas tank was boiled and sealed, new fuel pump was installed, and the carb was rebuilt. It starts easily and runs very good. Power steering works well. The 3 speed transmission shifts well and the brakes bring the big car to a straight stop. The power top pump was rebuilt but new lines are needed before the power top will work-if can easily be put up and down by hand, however. This is a great classic car that you can get in and drive. Would you rather than spend a lot more money on a a concourse trailer queen restoration that you are afraid to let the grandkids ride in and enjoy or buy this beauty for trips to the ice cream parlor? Please email me for any questions and I will get back to you asap. I'll consider classic car trades (either up or down in value). This car is currently insured, registered and has a current tag here in Georgia. This is considered the title for this year car in Georgia and it used for transfer of ownership. Georgia doesn't issue formal titles on cars of this year (earlier than 1962) and yes, your state will accept this paperwork in lieu of a title. Thanks for checking out my auction and best of luck!
