Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE YOU ARE BIDDING ON A 1966 PONTIAC BONNEVILLE CONVERTIBLE This car is something of a BARN FIND!! The best I can tell this car appears to be an original low mileage car. The odometer shows just over 75k miles and from what I can tell by looking it over top and bottom I don’t believe that it has rolled over the 100k mark. Although I don’t know for sure on the mileage the frame is in great shape and has little to no dirt built up in it and the sheet metal on the underside looks decent. All the inner rockers and inner quarter boxes are in good shape and all steel fuel and brake lines appear to be factory original and still holding pressure. THE BAD: Passengers front and rear floor pans need replacing as well as the drivers front floor pan. All still mostly intact but do have some rust holes. Rust seems to have come from the top side rather than from the bottom, likely caused by top leaks and or being rained on with top down. Trunk floor is also rusting through in several places and would need to be replaced. I have located brand new floor pans and trunk floor for this car. All chrome is there and intact but needs to be rechromed. Bumpers need to be straightened and rechromed. The right front fender has a dent in the top of it and some rust behind the front wheel but otherwise is in decent shape. The left front fender has some rust behind the front wheel and some surface rust around the wheel opening but is otherwise decent. The doors are reasonably solid and have a few dings. The rear quarters have typical rust along the bottoms and have a few minor dings and dents. I have also located quarter panel patches from the doors to the rear bumper that will eliminate all major rusted metal in the quarters. Convertible top needs to be replaced. THE GOOD: This car is overall very solid and would be a great restoration project car. It has several nice factory options. They are: Factory A/C (Compressor and condenser missing) Tilt Steering Column Burgundy Red Leather Upholstery (Seats now have vinyl covers. Back seat still has original Leather under the vinyl cover) Rear Speaker with switch on dash Courtesy Light Package Four Way Emergency Flashers Seat Belts Power Rear Mounted Antenna with switch on dash (Not Working) Power Steering Power Brakes Kelsey Hays 8 Lug Wheels Rear Fender Skirts All stainless is in pretty good shape and should be fine to re-use when car is restored. All glass is also in good shape, no cracks. Convertible top frame is in good shape. It just needs cleaning, light sanding and repainting when top is replaced. Rear window is a plastic window on the current top and is in useable condition if you choose. A glass rear window was an option in this year but I don’t know if this car originally had one or not. The original burgundy naugahyde top well cover is still in decent shape and in place behind the back seat. The power top works fine and the frame seems to fold and operate properly. All top frame joints appear to be tight. This car was originally white with a white top and burgundy interior. The original white top boot is also included and is in decent shape. The engine runs but does smoke and the rocker arms make random noise. The trans works fine. This car was taken off the road and parked in 1998 and was not driven since. It appears to have sat outside for several years after that. I purchase this car to save it from being destroyed. The person I purchased it from didn’t care if it was parted out or sold intact. They had bought it with the intention of restoring it but lost interest and just wanted to get back out what they had in it. They had never tried to start the car or even determine if anything worked in the car. It was pushed into the corner of a garage for several years and never touched. After I purchased the car I found that all fluids had been drained out including the gas tank and master brake cylinder. I sprayed down all of the cylinders with penetrating oil, cleaned the sparkplugs , cleaned and set the points, cleaned the rotor and distributor cap, refilled all fluids, reconnected all hoses, replaced the master cylinder, installed a battery, primed the carburetor, put a couple of gallons of fresh gas in the tank and started the engine for the first time in over 10 years. THIS CAR STARTS, RUNS, DRIVES, STEERS AND STOPS!!! ALTHOUGH I WOULD NOT ATTEMPT TO DRIVE IT ANY DISTANCE. ALL LIGHTS INSIDE AND OUT WORK! ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SEEMS TO BE INTACT AND WORKING! ALL SUBSYSTEMS SEEM TO WORK FINE AND THERE ARE NO APPARENT FLUID LEAKS. I had intended to put this car though an entire bumper to bumper restoration and show it as I have done with many other cars but I have decided that in my current economic situation I am better off to pass this one on to another Pontiac or BIG 60’s car enthusiast that is looking for a GREAT PROJECT that will result in one of the most GLAMOUROUS, SHOW WINNING, EYE CATCHING CARS YOU WILL EVER LAY EYES ON!!!
