Vehicle Detail

NO RESERVE The car with the "Science Fiction Body Styling" This Toronado was bought new at Dick Browning Oldsmobile in Long Beach, California on June 9th, 1966 and spent its entire life here in sunny Southern California. The body is very straight, the trunk and floors are rust free. It still retains the original Protect-o-Plate. This was Oldsmobile's first personal luxury car and was chosen as Motor Trend Magazine's Car of the Year for 1966. This car has been driven less than 1,000 miles in the last 20 years and spent the majority of that time sitting in the garage. Car was originally finished in Code G, Trumpet Gold with the standard Black vinyl interior. At some time in its life it was repainted to the current darker shade of gold which has faded over the years and really should be painted back to the correct color. It shows no evidence of accident damage or bondo/body filler anywhere. Car is currently registered, insured and titled to me. Power train is the 385 horsepower 425 cubic inch V-8 with 10.5:1 compression backed up by GM's Turbo 400 transmission. Options include Power Steering, Power Brakes, AM Pushbutton Radio with Rear Speaker, Remote Power Trunk, Signal-Stat 4 way Flashers, Headrests, Styled Steel Wheels with all 4 trim rings and caps, and a clock which, surprisingly, still works. Recent work includes 4 brand new white wall tires, complete new brakes all around including a new master cylinder, complete tune up, oil and filter change, new battery. Car starts, runs, drives and stops fine. Transmission shifts as designed. Engine has good power and does not smoke. Mileage on the odometer shows 01329, which I'm certain is 101329. This is an easy "restore as you drive" type of vehicle. Nothing is missing. Areas needing attention will include the paint as mentioned, the body is very straight with only a small (hardly noticable) dent in the driver's side B pillar where something must have fallen against the car. Another small dent at the extreme lower edge of the driver's front fender ahead of the wheel. There was a very minor amount of rust (less than 2 inches) at the very lowest edge of the rear quarter panels due to the drain tubes from the vent panel beneath the rear window having leaked. I had this area cut, removed and rewelded by a professional welder. Also at some point in the car's history, someone added after-market side marker lights at each corner (a 1970's "upgrade"?), this required small holes to be drilled to accomodate the lights. I removed these lights and had the same welder repair those holes so any body work required prior to repainting this car is very minimal. After 46 years the front and rear bumpers should probably be replated when the car is painted. The headliner has begun to separate at the seems and needs to be replaced. The driver's seat has a seam split from age. The engine oil pan gasket has dried from sitting so long and has a leak at the front edge. I am including a brand new oil pan gasket set with the car. I have accumulated odds and ends specific to the 1st generation Toronado whenever I came across them. So additional parts also included with the car are a brand new weather strip kit, an aditional rear tail light panel, an extra center drag link with tie rod ends attached, rear shock absorbers, tilt steering column, 2, 4 barrel carburetors, distributor, windshield wiper transmission. The spare tire, on an original styled steel wheel, bumper jack, lug wrench and hold down are all in place. In short, this car should be an easy restoration for anyone with some basic automotive knowledge and a desire for a true American classic that's a little more unique than your average Chevrolet. It is a fairly rare and appreciating classic as most have either gone to the crusher over the years or simply rusted away from neglect/abuse. Car is available to view any time during auction's run. If you need to get your wife's/mother's/girlfriend's permission to buy please do so before you bid. Questions will be answered promptly. Transaction will be handled in a gentlemanly fashion. I accept PayPal for deposit/payment. If you need to make other arrangements regarding payment please contact me prior to auction's end. I will not end the auction early for anyone so please don't ask. Car is easily accessible and I will assist your shipper in loading the car whenever they are avilable to do so. Good Luck! On May-25-12 at 14:15:34 PDT, seller added the following information: Also included with sale is a complete 1966 Oldsmobile Chassis Service Manual & Body By Fisher 1966 Service Manual on CD. The car also had a new heater core installed recently.
