Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a very clean and original Arizona FJ40. This vehicle was purchased new in 1972 in Tuscon, AZ and spent it's entire 40 years in Tuscon, AZ and Canyon City, CO. Both are very dry climates so there is very little rust. The only rust is on the back sill beneath the ambulance doors. The floor boards are perfect as are the rear quarter panels. The paint is original as proven by the faded car dealership sticker. This FJ is ideal for a full restoration project. It runs great and strong. It has the original motor and 3 speed manual transmission in it. The hard top is off a different FJ40. I bought it without the doors and found a set of almost new doors that were stored in a basement for 30 years. The paint on the doors is the same color as the body but not faded at all. The body is rock solid and not your typical rust bucket or bondoed FJ40. Everything works on this FJ40 except the heater core which was bypassed, most likely because it leaked. Otherwise this FJ40 can be used as a daily driver. I have had it for 1.5 years and stored it inside. After sitting for a 1.5 years is has a spot of oil about 2" in diameter. A very minor oil leak. Brakes, engine, steering, and transmission are great. I had the carb rebuilt at a cost of $400.00. I have taken it on the highway and ran it at 65mph and it runs great. The tires are in great shape. I have the original 1972 new warranty paperwork from the original owner. I have over $4,000.00 worth of receipts (since 2007) in a file including: new water pump, new tires, rebuilt carb, fuel filter, seat belts, hoses, thermostat, tail light lens, flasher, spare tire bumper, dash cover, license plate frame, brake and clutch rubber pads, monroe shocks, radiator cap, clutch, intake gasket, coil, master cylinder, exhaust system and fuel pump. It does have some minor dents that I captured in my pictures. The odometer works and shows 81,860 miles on it. I truly don't know if that is 82k or 182k. The original owner had this FJ from 1972-2005, 2nd owner 2005-2010, I bought it in 2010. It runs straight down the road with no pulling or wandering on the highway. Suspension is original (except for new monroe shocks). The 2nd owner had the front seats reupholstered. I do know the truck sat in a garage from 1990 to 2005. The fiberglass top has a damaged spot 4" long on the back of the roof that you can see in the close up picture. I spoke with a auto body shop and they said it was an easy fix. It has one jump seat in the back. The windshield has a small star and a scratch in the shape of an arc from the windshield wiper on the passengers side. All this FJ40 needs is minor body work, paint, and new heater core and you will have a beautiful FJ40. No reserve. Check my feedback. Buyer is responsible for transport.
