Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 1972 Buick Skylark Custom. Its equipped with a 455 and a 4 speed manual Muncie transmission. The body has a GS ram air hood installed but its damaged. The hit to the hood isn’t that bad and can be repaired by a competent body man. The hood is fairly clean otherwise with no rot underneath. The hood is repairable. The rest of the body has the typical heavy rust and rot that you would expect to find on a car that spent its life in the salty winters of the northeast. Bottoms of the quarter panel are flapping, bottom of the fenders are rotted, trunk pan shot, passenger door damaged, heavy rust under vinyl top by rear window, etc. The body will require a lot of rust repair to restore. Interior is complete but ratty. The engine is a 455 with 72 casting heads. It has a Poston S Divider aluminum intake with an Edelbrock Performer RPM carburetor. Headers look like the old Kenne Bell variety. The person I bought the car from said the heads were Stage 1 but I have no way of verifying that as the castings are the same number. The only way to tell is to remove the head. So if they turn out to be Stage 1 valves, think of it as a bonus. The engine looks to of been rebuilt at some point, but I have no way to tell how many miles ago. It runs very nice and is very clean inside. No noises, no smoke and has excellent oil pressure. Runs very well. The idle has a slight lope to it. Not much, but definitely not a stock cam. Oil was changed and ZDDP zinc additive added. Car has a 3 core radiator. Battery was relocated to trunk with heavy copper cables. A Moroso on/ off switch is mounted on the trunk support to turn off the electrics. A Ford starter solenoid was mounted on the firewall to relocate the solenoid because of the headers. The transmission is a Muncie M-20 wide ratio with a Hurst Competition Plus shifter. The shifter has red aluminum HD anodized shift rods with Heim joint style ends. Driveshaft loop installed. The trans shifts smooth with no noises and the clutch seems to be in good shape. I put it in 3rd gear at low RPM and there was no slippage. Rear is a 10 bolt, 8.5” posi with 3.23 gears. Rear has factory boxed GM lower control arms with a factory 7/8” rear sway bar. Rear cover is a T/A aluminum cover with the bearing cap preload adjusters. Wheels are factory 15x7 rallys with 265/ 50-15 rear tires. Tires are dry rotted and bald but hold air. Car has factory disc brakes up front. The car can either be fixed up and used the way it is, or it would be a perfect parts car/ donor car for someone that had a clean GS or Skylark shell and needed a driveline. Everything you need is here- from the big block frame perches, to the correct BB fan shroud for a 455 conversion. You get a complete 4 speed setup, disc brakes, a posi rear and everything else you see. Everything you could possibly want for a complete conversion. One stop shopping so to speak. Plus all the parts you can scrounge off the shell. To buy all these parts separately would cost you a small fortune. IMPORTANT STUFF- I do not have a title or paperwork for this car. The car was sitting for 8 years and the prior owner could not find the title for me. So please be aware I’m selling it sans paperwork. Buyer to arrange any and all transportation and shipping . The car will need to be trailered home. So please arrange how you’re going to get it there. Please ask questions PRIOR to bidding. I will answer all questions to the best of my ability. This is a NO RESERVE auction so bid to win. Only bid of you have the money readily available. PLEASE- NO BIDDERS WITH LOW OR NEGATIVE FEEDBACK!! I will cancel your bid. I require a $200 deposit within 24 hours via PAYPAL. The balance is to be paid within 10 days in cash, in person. The car needs to be picked up within a reasonable amount of time- which is 2 weeks unless other arrangements are made PRIOR to the end of the auction. Thanks and good luck. I hope it goes to a good home. On May-18-12 at 14:05:59 PDT, seller added the following information: Just a note- If you cannot pay in cash in person, thats OK. I will accept any form of certified payment- bank check, cashier's check, etc. Once the check has cleared at my bank, I will release the car. We can even do a bank to bank wire transfer if you prefer. I will NOT accept PayPal as a payment method. As you all know, there are plenty of scammers out there and I just want to protect myself. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me.
