Vehicle Detail
Mercedes-Benz 280SE saloon Here’s a great opportunity for a great running and driving restoration project or if you need a superb drivetrain for your 280SL or SE. The engine is responsive and powerful, and the transmission shifts perfectly smoothly. Brakes, suspension, and steering are also excellent. The body of the car is in very good condition, with little rust on the outer panels and excellent body gaps. It is obvious the car has never been in an accident. The paint is pretty dead, but consistently so, which leads me to believe it is entirely original. There is minor rust under the car. Chrome and brightwork varies from very good to about OK. Tires have plenty of life left in them. The AC blows cold, and the car features the original Becker Europa radio. The interior is a little all over the place: seat surfaces are really good with little wear, as are door panels. Carpet is in need of help, the dash has one small crack, headliner is OK, wood on the dash is OK, wood veneer around the windshield is dead. The electric windows work, though not very well. CA buyers should note that the car was not registered as non-operative, so there are back-fees due. This solid example from the heyday of Mercedes production is a great opportunity to drive and restore a super-stylish classic car, with a modern feel from a by-gone era when Mercedes would truly hand-build their cars.
