Vehicle Detail
This listing is for a 1974 MGB GT, it was built in July of 1974 toward the end of chrome bumper car production. I have owned the car 4 years and have put 15,000 miles on it, it's driven regularly, at least 200 days a year. When I purchased the car it had the large rubber blocks on the front and rear bumpers and a non-original plastic front air dam. I installed new chrome bumpers and overriders together with the correct front valence. It was also a disc wheel car that I converted to wire wheel. All the instruments work, turn signals, head lights, tail lights, and interior lights. Initially I had intended to install leather seats but found these seats to be so comfortable that I changed my mind. Originally the car was a lighter color green and 14 years ago was painted this darker british racing green. Unfortunately the previous owner sprayed a black undercoating type material in the engine compartment probably to try to hide the previous color. This same material was sprayed onto the spare tire area. You can see this in the photos provided. There is rust perforation on the passenger castle rail. Just after purchasing the car I bought the Moss Rocker Sill Repair Kit part # 457-158 but it turned out to be a non-issue for me and I did not do the repair. I am including the kit, it sells for $349.95. The car has rebuilt shocks all around, new springs in the rear, new alternator, Ansa exhaust, the two 6 volt batteries were converted to a single 12 volt, and Pertronix ignition. The clutch master and brake master both leak. There is a new clutch slave. The engine is remarkably dry almost zero oil dropped. I have been using Castrol 20w50 and change the oil regularly. No issues with the transmission which is a standard 4 speed. The distributor advance mechanism is fully functional. The car retains its original British Leyland AM radio, which is working. The sliding hood (bonnet) prop was removed, I am including one. Please note that there is a dent in the passenger front fender next to the grill. There is a photo. This happened while I was parked at a supermarket. I changed the rear axle to a wire wheel type and removed the handbrake cable at that time. I am including the original handbrake cable and a new one. The rubber wind up window seals need to be replaced and I am including new ones. The car drives very well and is very comfortable. The suspension really feels especially good. I have greased the kingpins regularly. The steering rack gaiters need to be replaced but the rack has been greased on a regular basis. I would have no question about jumping in it and driving it anywhere. Good oil pressure, see picture. Over the past few years I have heard many other MGB owners complain that their heater does not work well. This heater works very well! I get compliments on the car every time I drive it. I have taken it to one regional All British show and took a second place. I have a clear Louisiana title in my name. No warranties are expressed or implied. Shipping is the responsibility of the auction winner although I will assist in loading on a transporter if necessary. A $300. deposit via Paypal at the end of the auction with the balance due in cash or certified check.I was asked today to post a picture of the rust on the passenger side castle rail. I have done so. It is affected from the wheel well back to the jacking point. Main frame rails are in excellent shape. On Apr-30-12 at 13:34:51 PDT, seller added the following information: I forgot to mention that the car also has a Hi-Torque starter.
