1961 Austin HealEy 3000, BT7 2+2 This project car is located in Austin, TX. I’m holding a nationwide auction that will end at midnight, Sunday, 13 May 2012. The car has a clear title. The firewall manufacturers ID number is a match. There are no ID number stampings on the engine. Payment will be accepted in the form of wired funds to my bank only. A non-refundable $1,000 deposit thru PayPal will hold the vehicle after the auction for 3 business days only. The new owner is responsible for picking up the car at an agreed upon time; hopefully the week of May 14 to 19 . I work offshore half the time so this arrangement must be accommodated. The car is sold in an as-is condition and what you see is what you’ll get. The highest bid as of 24 April is $5,900. This car has undergone a major frame restoration. After 4 lengthy rounds of cutting & fitting that took over 6 years, we couldn’t get the firewall, doors and fenders to line up properly. This car has beaten me. The car is a ‘Roller’ on old wire wheels and can be steered and pushed around. Items of Interest 1. The original frame rusted out. A used one was bought and sandblasted. It was found to contain pinholes. I placed it in a professional frame shop. They boxed it in and covered it with 14 gauge steel. It was then placed on a frame straightener and the diagonals were caught to 1/32”. It was then coated with epoxy 3x, including ‘Chip Guard’. 2. The original Lehman Ford 6 cylinder in-line engine was totally rebuilt (carbs too). It is the 3 carburetor model. The radiator has a new core. It has an electronic distributor but other original ignition parts are included. There are 2 starters and 2 generators. There is a spare transmission for parts (less a 1st speed synchro). There is plate of stainless steel with circular swirled finish mounted on the engine side firewall where the hoses and linkages pass through to the driver’s compartment. In the pic, ‘firewall & eng compartment’, it is covered with grey tape 3. Most of the rust we could find was cropped out and new metal, mostly in the form of patch panels from Moss Motors, was added to the flooring, trunk space, inside fenders (mud walls). The exception is on the front fenders which I recently bought used (the old ones are included). There is some deterioration in the aluminum front apron from an old scrape. Rust in the doors was cropped out but not replaced. 4. There are many other new parts such as a wiring harness, gas tank, gas cap. The front suspension & steering was fitted with new neoprene & plastic parts. The 2 main seats and 2 small seats in the back were reupholstered years ago. The mounting hardware and linkages for the seats is included. 5. Using the aluminum original dashboard as a template, we made a custom walnut burl dashboard. Using wood from the same plank, we made the gripping on the original banjo steering wheel a match. The original Smith gauges were refurbished and cleaned. 6. There is an uncracked windscreen and a steel frame for the convertible top. 7. The braking system was overhauled 5 years ago. The front disc brakes were overhauled with new parts , the rear brake drums were turned and new shoes installed. New master cylinders for both the braking system and clutch were installed. 8. There is a full set with extras of Whitworth thread taps & dies I bought from Poland. 9. Three bumpers, front grills & shrouds are included but need re-chroming. There is a windshield wiper motor and various bits & pieces.
