Vehicle Detail
Pininfarina assisted, the MGB's clean design was right first time. With rock-solid unit-construction, front disc brakes, BMC B-series 1,798cc 95bhp engine, proven gearbox, rear axle and suspension, it was a thoroughly robust and enduring car. British Leyland appeared from the ashes of BMC for the MG Car Company however, and from 1968 the new company became obsessed with substituting many standard parts from Marinas and Allegros. Now, turning 50 years old, the most desirable incarnation of the quintessential classic British sportscar is the Mark I with pull handles, and what more appropriate colour than British Racing Green. On offer is just such a car. Owned by a local Southern California gentleman, this lovely Mark I 1965 MGB is a truly rare find. The car, was subject to a quality restoration some five years ago, repainted in the original British Racing Green it left the factory with 47 yers ago. The car shows very well, with good shine and lustre to the paint. Chrome is very good to excellent, as is trim and the original chrome wire wheels with knock-offs. There is no evidence of the car ever being in an accident or any rust repairs, as it has enjoyed the Southern California climate from new. The car retains its original aluminium hood/bonnet. The interior is in excellent condition, restored with new leather seats, door panels, dash, carpet, weather stripping, etc. At the time of restoration, the engine was fully rebuilt with a fast road camshaft for a more spirited drive, and exhales through a high-flow exhaust with a more throaty sound befitting a true sportscar. The engine has exceptionally good power and is responsive. It was upgraded to an alternator set up also. The car was recently fitted with a fully rebuilt transmission, which shifts perfectly smoothly, with a good clutch. Brakes and suspension are excellent, and all electrical systems work as they should. I wouldn't think twice about driving this car anywhere. This is a truly rare-find, a fantastic driving early and desirabe MGB in superb rust-free condition throughout, and a must for the MG enthusiast.
